Got a Yamaha RX V-2500. Suggested Power Amp?

Hey, all! I had a very nice receiver given to me and am trying to build a system around it.

I got a Yamaha RX V-2500 receiver from my brother-in-law. It may not be the latest and greatest, but I know it sure as hell shook his walls. Lol.

My reason for posting this thread is because I am a total "noob" in the world of stereo systems, and this site appears to be a very good source of information. I'd like to say thank you in advance to all who help me...

The speakers I'm considering are a pair of Cerwin Vega SL 12 towers, and other surround sound speakers. I'm not dead set on them, but I've always liked the way Cerwin Vega sounds. I need subs that will pound when I play music, but will also make my daughter and I jump out of our seats while watching movies.

I will also be adding to the two SL-12s with three more surround sound speakers, later. Any advice on speaker setups will be taken into consideration, and greatly appreciated. The $650 for the Cerwin Vegas are just about as expensive as I'd like to go, though, as money definitely is an issue. I've been told that I'll not be disappointed with the SL-12s.

My main reason for this thread is to ask advice on which Power Amp to use in cooperation with the RX V-2500 to make these Cerwin Vegas(or other) POUND when jamming music, and shake the neighbors walls when watching movies. Lol

Money IS an issue, but I know I'll have to spend some to get real quality.

Thanx again for any help...:)

That receiver will drive those speakers pretty fargin' loud. ...louder than you will be able to stand.

Why do you think you need more power? You'll need at least twice that much power to get a barely noticeable difference in loudness.

Just save up for some big honkin' subs[edit] Left out a very important word.

Anybody own a set of SL12s?
Got a review? How do they sound in comparison to others in that price range?

You and markw are right. It is the sub(s) that will "pound" and make you "jump out of your seats"... not the speakers.

Since budget is limited, consider what you want first... quality music from your fronts, or chest thumping bass from your sub(s). Go for that one, then the other when your budget allows.
