My daughter's finally crapped out on her - battery problems. It was well used when I bought it.

She wants another iPhone.

Are there any special deals out there? CostCo? Sams? Refurbished?

It is a brave soul who marches to a different drummer.
Just to clear my point, modern BBs are like Nick Mason, not John Bonham.
If you're looking for a different but solid drummer - I'd look for Sony z1/2 refub phones

Hey, I've always been a Pink Floyd fan. ;)

No particular model. she had a 5 so that might be nice because she has the battery pack for it. I took hers by a shop and it looks like they can replace the battery for $45 and he thinks that will fix it, so right now I am uncertain about needing one.

I wasn't sure how aggressively Apple prevented battery swaps. Now I need to see if my very old iPod can get a new battery.

Kurt, check eBay. A buddy of mine has repaired his iPhone a few times using parts off of eBay (from back glass panels to the screen itself). I did a quick check and saw iPhone 5 batteries with repair kit tools for $9.

The best deal going a ways back was Walmart with their Straight Talk plan. The phone went on a credit card with zero interest for like 26 months and the plan was 50 bucks a month for 3G, NOT 4g.

I don't think you needed to get the plan to score an interest free phone. Not much of a 'deal' but little is in the iWorld.

Speaking of cell plans: these these two offer great value :
A) ting - pay for what you use
Running on sprint network
B) T-mobile pre paid : $30 month. Unlimited data (5gb 4G) and text plus 100 minutes of voice. Last one seems very small, but then you consider Google voice has unlimited free us domestic call using data network (or wifi)

It is amazing how text has dominated youth. If you had told me 20 years ago that my teenage daughter would (by choice) spend less than 3 minutes a day talking on the phone and that would be typical of teenage girls I would never have believed it!

That T-mobile deal is killer if you don't talk much or use Google voice.
Do you know if it is part of their program where streaming Pandora (or other music sources) is free - not included in the 5GB allowance?

Not sure (i use it, but still have no clue). If i had to guess - no, but music streaming isn't bandwidth heavy.
This deal is NOT available in T-mobile stores. Only in Walmart, online or if you call them.
You could bring your own device.

my point is recently Google voice started to work over ANY data network - 4g OR wifi, so 100 monthly minutes are easily can be extended if one could switch a phone number
