Avengers - Age of Ultron

1 Word Review: Awesome

What I thought it did well:
  • Solid Action Sequences
  • James Spader as Ultron was the perfect choice, made the bad guy that much more evil
  • Thought that both Wanda & Pietro were done very well, and the actors did a lot with the little they were given
  • Hawkeye backstory: Nice to see the history of the only non powered super hero
  • Good use of comedic humor to break up the seriousness of fights etc
  • Tony Stark was spot on compared to the comic book Persona
  • Captain America is a little more bad ass in this film
  • The Dolby Atomos of this film (viewed on IMAX screen) was very noticeable and well done
  • Vision, the character was well done
  • Some "one liners" that were funny and directly related to origins in the comics

Areas I wasn't completely blown away by
  • To many characters in the Marvel Universe in one film
  • Creative license with the Origin of Vision/Untron (That is just the nerdy me talking)
  • Pretty much more of the same Script Wise
  • One of the characters fate at the end
  • 3D was pretty weak in this film I felt (I am sure it was an afterthought)
  • Bruce Banner/Black Widow relationship just seemed forced and weak
In the end there is no way I am not going to love this movie, but I don't think it was better than the first Avengers, which was a little more plot driven. Still an great movie on it's own

4.25/5 Stars for me

My top 5 Favorite Marvel Films
1. Captain America Winter Solider
2. Avengers
3. Captain America
4. Thor
5. Iron Man 1

Thanks for the review Cos. I'll wait for the 3D Bluray. :)

I'd have to put Iron Man 1 above Thor, but the rest I think I would agree. I kind of liked Thor 2 as much as 1 too.

Going to the theatre on cheap Tuesdays or what I affectionately call "welfare night" to watch it. The bluray of this flick will also join my collection. I'm also betting that ADTGguy will buy the bluray as well. :)

I have those cheap deals too, as I plan on going back to see it again... and probably again :). Groupon for my theater is $5.00 after first week of release in one of those sit down and order food theaters.

I will also add, this is the first movie I have seen that has me really curious how my Dolby Atmos will turn out. I am sure when this movie releases, it will support it.

Good review! Regarding Dolby Atmos, I felt that through the majority of the movie it was not particularly noticeable, but there were a few sequences when it was. In particular I recall one sequence when chunks of debris are raining down into the ocean, and I felt as if I was caught in the center of it. It was an excellent effect. I just wish there had been more of that!

I have too. It's in my DNA. :D

I saw this movie on Tuesday. I liked it a lot.

I think it's definitely worth buying.

Well, we final saw this last Saturday morning* and, to be honest, I was a bit disappointed. Yes, the SFX were great and the action sequence were well done but that seems to be the glue that ties this together.

The plot was a bit thin and predictable, and Ultron was a bit of a scenery chewer, and I think this was just a stepping stone/place holder to further the overall Marvel grand plan. The quick mention of several new members of the Avengers towards the end sort of confirms this.

IMNSHO, the strongest Marvel movies were the original Iron Man and winter Soldier. I'd have to put this one down towards the bottom of the list. I see GOTG as a standalone entry and not part of the current universe.

* Our "welfare movie days" are weekends before noon and all day Tuesday.

I watched it last night at the theater and I thought it was entertaining. Special FX and audio was stellar, revealing some of the character's story more deeply was also refreshing...but I walked away a little bored ...like I've seen this film before. IHO, Jupiter Ascending is a better movie.

We definitely don't have the same taste in movies, though I can see your point of more of the same. I thought the 1st Avengers was better overall, but Jupiter Ascending to me was total junk. It is easily one of my top 10 worst movies I have seen. Terrible acting across the board, uninteresting 1 dimensional villain, poorly done story. The W-Brothers (well, now brother and sister) lost their magic after The Matrix and should be banned from making future movies.

Please take my review of it with a sense of humor, but I really didn't like it. It did have some good special effects and soundtrack.

No worries Cos.. :) The acting wasn't terrible across the board but it did have its range from good to bad. The story line for Jupiter Ascending is far better than the Age of Ultron. The only glue in Avengers were the fight scenes. Fury & Shield disappears and makes a miraculous appearance after the team gets their ass whipped. Really??? That is cheesey.
