You have not told me your TV. This is crucial as this needs to be set up also. Most TVs have no analog audio outs now. I don't think any do, as it is not allowed under current rules. Most have an optical and or coax digital out, most just a digital optical out. Current TVs have an HDMI ARC return channel. None of these audio outs support the loss less codecs.

Anyhow I need to download your TVs manual. I have your receiver manual.
The manual is is 124 pages long! You need to start at page 69 to set your speakers up.

Press set up on the remote, and select yes to front and left speakers. As you have no sub select large. Select no to all the other speakers.

In the speaker set up menu on the right there is a test tone option. Select on. If your speakers are connected correctly to your receiver and you have made the speaker selection I outlined you should hear the test tone from the speakers.

If you hear the tone your receiver likely works correctly. Once you have heard the tone you can now toggle test tone off. This is all covered on page 71.

Now I need your TV manual, so I can talk you through your TV set up and give you connection options to your receiver and tell you how to assign the input correctly.

So I need you to confirm that you hear the test tones, and give me enough information to find your TV manual.

Thanks TLS and others for your exceptional suggestions.

NEW FINDINGS
Here are some errors detected after performing the following:

#######
Auto Setup:
#######
ERROR
E-1 : No Front SP

#######
Manual Test Tone (test of speakers)
#######
Right Speaker - working
Left Speaker - not working

Note: I placed the speaker red/black cabled on both positive/negative
ends of a battery respectively and got the same results.

#######
Manual Setup - (Speaker - Configuration)
#######
Subwoofer - use or none
Front - small or large
Center - small or large
Surround - small or large

Note: There are no YES/NO on the select menu

CONCLUSION
The TV, cables, connections and sources are perfectly fine. The error is from the speakers, auto-setup and/or configuration.

I reckon the only solution would
a). Buy 5.1 speakers,
b). Get a technician to check the left speaker
c). Fix the Auto Setup error

I would prefer to use only 1 or 2 speakers on the 5.1 receiver to save room space.

Any help based on these new findings will be greatly appreciated...

First of all going to 5.1 will not help you one bit, just add more complexity.

You have more than one problem. You have a dead left speaker, and you have no audio. You should have had sound from the right speaker.

Check that the cable is properly connected to the left speaker. If it is, then get another cable, just a short length of zip cord is fine. Now do the battery test again and see if you get the click, click on the battery test you did.

The other thing you can do is swap the speakers over and see if the same speaker is still dead, or if it stays with the left amp channel.

Since you still are not passing audio though the receiver, i still need you TV make and model.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. I have been away for the Easter holidays.

I returned the faulty bulky 2.0 speakers and ordered slim 5.1 speakers to save room space. I am hoping it will work with the 5.1 receiver.

I will keep you posted on the progress in the weekend.

For the benefit of the forum readers in the same situation, it would be nice if anyone could provide practical guide on how to connect 2.0 speakers on Yamaha 4067 (5.1) receiver. I reckon that receivers are strictly restricted to the manufacturers recommended number of speakers.

ALL receivers will work in 2.0. You just need more assistance then we can give you here. You need someone in the room with you.

Guaranteed that if I were in the room with you, this would run 2.0 in minutes.

You really should have just tried to buy a couple of extra cables. What if it's the receiver that's broken?

Your reckoning is incorrect. You can connect as few or as many speakers as the receiver supports.

This is how you would connect stereo speakers to your receiver:

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for my late feedback. There was a delay in my receipt of the replacement speakers.

I finally received a new 5.1 speakers yesterday and have been researching on how to set it up with my receiver.

Before I proceed with the set up process, I would like to share my findings and have it cross- checked by you expertson this forum.

Here are my findings on how to set up the Home Theater system:

1). Connect the Speakers (Front Left, Front Right, Center, Rear Left, Rear Right) to the Receiver.

2). Connect the Subwoofer to the Receiver via RCA cable according to the following 2 options:

Connection options:
i). Connect a Single (mono) RCA cable from Receiver (Subwoofer Pre Out) to Subwoofer (AUX L or R).

ii). Connect an RCA "Y" cable from Receiver (Subwoofer Pre Out) to Subwoofer (AUX L & R).

3). Connect Receiver to TV via HDMI (both ARC compatible).

4). Change settings on TV to "Speaker Off".

5). Change settings on Subwoofer "Mode" to 5.1 (ON) or 2.1 (OFF).

6). Perform Auto Setup via Yamaha's YPAO auto-calibration.

7). Are there anything else?

Please, advise urgently.

Note: The TV, Receiver and Speakers are all brand new and working fine. The speakers have been tested with a battery and working fine. The TV and Receiver are well connected via HDMI and working fine.

Update....

I finally configured home theater system. The TV, Receiver and Speakers (5.1) are all working well (except the Subwoofer).

The sound from Subwoofer is very low which cannot be heard except if placed closer to the ear. I have tried to increase the volume on the Receiver and Subwoofer without any success.

I connected single RCA cable from the Receiver (Subwoofer Out Jack ) to the Subwoofer (L Jack) as many experts suggested. Experts say using a "Y" RCA cable isn't necessary.

So, what I am getting wrong? Please help!

Note:
Regarding using 2 or 5 speakers on the Yamaha Receiver. Once the speakers are cpnfigured, a 5 or 2 channel can be selected via the «Music Button« on the remote control. There is no other place to set it on the receiver or TV.

Finally, Subwoofer is now working...

All I did was...change Subwoofer setting on receiver to "use".

I thought the auto set up would have done it, hence I did not bother to change the settings.

The Rear speakers are set on "small" while the Front Speakers are set on "large" and all working fine.

Some experts recommend all speakers to be set on "small". I will do a little research to see if it makes any difference.

I guess I am done...

I hope this post can help anyone in the same situation in future . Thanks for all the members who provided helpful guides.
