Hi

I've got a Pioneer VSX-422 setup with 5.1 speakers, BD, a cable-box and an Apple-tv.
When I wtch movies/tv there are sound from the subwoofer just fine, but when listening to music via Apple-tv(radiochannels, Spotify via Airplay or Youtube) it is totally silent.
Until now it has not been a problem, but now I'm thinking about replacing my large frontspeakers with some smaller ones. If I can't get the sub to play with music I think it will be a pretty poor sound. :(
Anyone know what to do? Have been reading manual over and over...

Welcome to the forum!

If you have your speakers set to "Large," then the Pioneer won't redirect bass from those speakers to the subwoofer. So, if you have your front speakers set as large, the sub wouldn't get used during stereo music playback. Movies and TV that have 5.1 soundtracks have a dedicated subwoofer audio track (the ".1") that will engage the sub even if all of your speakers are set to large.

If you have your speakers set as large, set them to small and then check if the sub kicks on during music.

Thanks for the welcome.
And thanks for the response. It works just fine.
Feel kind of stupid now.
Why doen't the manual say something like "If speakers are set to Large, bass will not be redirected to subwoofer"? Is it that common knowledge?

Welcome now Read:
Why should I read any of those? One is not related to my question and on the other, the closest thing is a remark that states that if set to large, non-large speakers will be "asked" to play sounds they can't. Not a word about signal to subwoofer will be cut, when playing stereo...

No need to be harsh.
Where I come from we have a saying: "As you yell in the forest, you will be answered"
"Welcome now Read" sounds pretty harsh to me.
And when the links even are off-topic or only give a vague hint to a solution... *sigh*
