While it may look like the previous versions, the new R2 MK3 Stereo System from Ruark Audio is a different unit on the inside with some cosmetic changes on the outside. This unit plays your music collection streamed wirelessly from storage devices like memory sticks, PCs or any other device connected to your home network and supports a variety of audio codec’s including WMA, AAC, FLAC, MP3, MP2 and Real Audio. Audio streaming requires a DLNA server or PC/Mac running DLNA certified software.
The R2 MK3 has DAB/FM and Internet Radio tuners built-in, making it capable of receiving radio stations globally. In addition, it also has DAB+ also included, so the R2 can be used in countries where this updated format is being used. Having aptX® audio technology on-board allows the R2 to stream directly from compatible devices to R2 with audio quality virtually indistinguishable from a wired connection. It is also Spotify connect ready, which means that if you have a Spotify Premium account you can select the R2 unit as your main player and then control playback using its built-in controls. Another nice feature is that when you turn the unit on and hit play, it will start exactly where it finished (even if your phone or tablet switched off).
On the front panel a headphone output is provided along with a switchable line input allowing easy connection of auxiliary audio devices. A useful function of the headphone output is that the volume is ‘remembered’ independently from the main speaker volume, so when headphones are unplugged the volume reverts to the last used level.
On the rear panel you’ll find a pair of high quality phono sockets for the second switchable line input and a multi-use USB socket. These sockets are ideal for charging your smartphone or for connecting your memory stick/hard drive. They also serve as connection to the audio/headphone output of most flat panel TV's. In addition, the R2 features customizable twin alarms with adjustable snooze and sleep timer.
