Starting my own Mobile Disco, need advice on loudspeakers

Hello everyone!

My name is Tim, Im a 25 year old from Manchester who has been dabbling into the world of music for the past 3 years now, I work as a DJ in Clubs and Bars around Manchester, but would like to now take my experiences and knownledge and start my own business in Mobile Discos.

I am looking for a Passive Loud Speaker PA System up to £2,000 (including amp, Speakon cables etc), ideal for weddings, birthdays and corporate events, suitable for up to roughly 500 people.

So far I've come across Yamaha P7000S Power Amplifier (2U) 950+950 Watts for the amp, and the JBL JRX 125 (Speaker) x2 alongside JBL JRX 118s (Sub) x2.

I've come here looking for advice on getting some speakers ideal for my scenario and would like to get the most bang for my buck. Unfortunately my knowledge runs as deep as understanding Omhs, RMS and Frequency Cross-overs on a basic level.

Any advice would be highly appreciated, although I am looking for suggestions.

JBL speakers are generally good, as are Yamaha amps. Don’t know whether or not they’re the best bang for the buck though. I suggest finding a forum for DJs to post your questions, you’ll get better advice there. This is a home theater forum, we’re not accustomed to or knowledgeable about DJ and PA equipment.

I would look at the size of the typical venue before the number of people in the crowd because you may find that the venue is long and narrow and you'll be set up at one end. That means the far end will receive much less SPL than the near end and in order to cover the far end at a higher SPL, those at the near end will be bombarded by the sound. You may find that four smaller speakers will cover the area better in this case but if you need them to be stacked together, it will still cover the space as well as the larger ones, with the added benefit of slightly better dispersion.

You might also look at a QSC amp- they're generally bulletproof and might save you some money.
