I have a DacMagic (not the plus model). If I am right, the USB input is limited to 44.1Khz. My question is; is it possible to improve the quality using a miniToslink-Toslink through the optical headphones output of my IMac? (96Khz)

Thanks!

The USB input supports up to 192 kHz. As for sound quality, it depends much more on the quality of the recording/media file itself than the sampling frequency and the bit depth.

The useable frequency range is half the sample rate. A 44.1KHz source will play a tone that's 22,050 Hz at full volume. The response range of your speakers notwithstanding, how good is your hearing? I can hear to about 15KHz, personally. Anything beyond that is silence to me (but perhaps not to my cat). Attaining a higher sample rate will yield inaudible results, I guarantee you.
