Recently I bought a pioneer vsx903-k surround sound receiver. The problem I am having is hooking my ps3 up through the receiver to a rca 52in rear projection tv. The receiver video upscale. Obviously the rca tv doesn't have HDMI so i bought a adapter plug to go from the big computer style plug with the two screw in jobbers on the side to hdmi. When ps3 loads main screen is displayed just fine but as soon as I click on the game i want to the the tv flashes numerous times and then it's displayed 3 different times. please help me before I go insane!

I assume you have an HDMI to DVI converter. What we don't know is what the input on the TV is. It could be analog VGA or DVI.

If it is VGA you are out of luck. Since you seem to specialize in old junk, I suspect you can't watch TV on the RCA unit. Also that receiver is as old as the hills and not suitable for the modern world.

If it is DVI, it only passes video and not audio.

We are now well passed the analog sunset, and that old junk you keep posting about is now useless.

Sorry, but you are impossible to help.

ok well instead of being a douche bag you could ask. Just because you know electronics and all you do is sit at home in your parents basement at the age of 38 dont take your sexual frustrations out on me mario. Some of us obviously don't know how to do this or i would know what fuking info you needed to help me. don't you think i would have posted it? well just as you DIDN"T suspect i can watch tv and it comes in much clearer since i got this reciever. I'm not worried about the audio issue being passed because i can do that via rca and why would it come in crystal clear when the ps3 starts like it's running just fine and then as soon as you go to play a game the thing goes to showing three diff displays? I can run the ps3 to reciever using rca's and the picture is on the tv but the quality is terrible. I had it hooked up to where the picture was tremendously better and decided i would clean up the cables and built a shelf for everything to sit on....and i can't remember how it was hooked up.

You are a very rude member.

That information tells me that TV has DVI. However it is so old it does not give your ps3 the required hand shake and cuts the connection. There is nothing you can do about this, so you will have to use the old RCA connectors.

how am I the one that's rude??? really i would like to know??? Maybe the reason they are trying to encourage ppl to post on this site is because of smartass' like yourself. Do you not remember what you posted?? "If it is VGA you are out of luck. Since you seem to specialize in old junk, I suspect you can't watch TV on the RCA unit. I disagree with your response as I had it hooked up and it worked great until i unhooked everything to clean up all the wires and put it on a shelf

Maybe you should have TLS Guy stop by and show you how to hook it back up since you can't remember where the wires go.

In all fairness, with the PS3, it is possible that the resolution is set to 'auto' which means it's dumping out a 1080p signal which the TV can't deal with properly.

Go into your video settings on the PS3 and set the output to 1080i. This is likely compatible with the TV and since most HD cable systems use 1080i as a default setting, it explains why the TV shows cable TV just fine.

It is really old stuff here, so you have to accept compatibility issues at times. But, they can be quite the headache.

If this does not work properly, hook your PS3 directly to the display, bypassing the A/V receiver. There is NOTHING about the A/V receiver which will help your image quality. PS3 out HDMI to DVI into the TV. Set the resolution as 'fixed' to 1080i on the PS3. Should work.
