first time blogger here. As a retired person with an obsolete a/v receiver and limited funds to upgrade, I need new electronics to rebuild my system. I would like to future proof as much as possible and do it with separates if I can. Right now I have a 5.1 speaker system (Revel Performa F32 towers ), Oppo bdp-105 disc player, and Panny vt50 65 inch plasma HDTV. I'm saving my pennies for a Mac MC8207 7 channel amp. I would like to know if Yamaha's cx5000 Adventage pre/pro would be a good match. I read the article about voltage gain here and don't understand the science. Thanks ahead for your answers

Not to mention it's ready for Atmos & Auro-3D, unlike the Yamaha. Of course, given how much the industry is in flux at the moment (4K Blu-ray, DTS' next gen format), I'm not sure how much one can really future proof at the moment.

Re: Voltage gain, I'd expect either the Yamaha or the Marantz to be capable of driving pretty much any amplifier to full power, including the Mac you're eying.
