I've seen some used Range Rovers that cost this much.

I wonder what's more fun? Driving a $12K used Rover or using a $12K Pass amp to drive your speakers?

Anybody in the market for amps like this is probably not thinking about $12K used Range Rovers. Given your statement it looks like the converse is also true...

Pass Labs are very nice amps. If I where in the market I would buy one of these http://www.powermodules.com/mb-500.html which have been discontinued and I could get it at a very low price, in the 3k range.
