Help buying a new sub

I have an approx. 2,500 sq ft HT room (~14x25x6.5'). I have Goldenear Triton Two (with built in sub) and a Butt Kicker hooked up to the couch.
I'm looking for:
  • Use for 95% movie viewing (Sci Fi)
  • Looking to spend <$500 (used)
  • that I can feel but has CLEAN bass (I really don't want the distortion rattle),
  • I play it at moderate (not low, but not reference) levels
  • I have only 1 listening location
  • and if possible would prefer one that provided enough visceral experience with less of the ultra low frequencies that so easily go throughout the house. As I'd rather forgo some of those freq. and enable me to raise the volume (to enjoy the experience w/o disturbing the house) - not a must, but preferred
  • I'm upgrading from an SVS PC20-39 CS (soon to be listed if anyone is in NY/Conn/NJ area is interested) since I recently got a buttkicker couch hook up and thus want to change to a sub with it's own amp.

thus far I was considering a Deftech SuperCube 6000 (I also like the idea of a remote), SVS PCI 12 Ultra , Deftech supercube 2, or perhaps stretch the budget for an SVS SB-2000 (kinda limiting myself to what's available used to save $)
let me know what you suggest for my specifics (above)
THANKS!

I'm really pleased with the SVS SB-2000, I have a room slightly larger than yours.

If you want clean, go for sealed.

Does sealed also give a good visceral feeling for movies?

Yes. If it isn't undersized or underpowered for the cubic feet you have.

The SB-2000 handled the Live Die Repeat intro, and the naval warfare battle of Master and Commander like a champ in a roughly 3000 cubic ft room.

Per Audioholics own review: "The PB-2000 earns our Bassaholic Large room rating - which is appropriate for a room over 3000 cubic feet. The SB-2000 received our Bassaholic Medium room rating - meaning it can slam a room that's less than 3,000 cubic feet in volume at reference level."

Also, SVS has a 1 year trade up policy, and they'll pay for shipping. So if you felt the SB wasn't boomy enough for you, you could just pay $100 and get a PB.

thanks for the info, sounds good - I've updated my OP.
How does the SVS SB-2000 compare to the DefTech Supercube 6000 ?

I do recommend the isolation feet upgrade for the SVS, or alternatively you can use an Aualex SubDude for isolation. The feet are a cleaner look for a theater room though.

I have the isolation feet on my SVS, and a Subdude for the Yamaha HS8 in my studio.

Also, I found a used comparably priced
Sunfire True EQ12 Signature sub (seems like a bargain)
how does this compare to the SB-2000 for my needs?
especially how clean is the bass at low levels
or is the SB2000 better suited for my needs?

thx

Being that my sub is about 35 feet (cable length) from the AVR - how should I cable it - should I use a long RCA cable (like this: ) or is there a better way?

FYI the article linked to says <3,000 sq feet for the SB2000, however the actual video review shown there says up to 2,000 sq feet.
Also, another "concern" is that the article says that the PB-2000 is 10db louder <30Hz - is that only an issue if you want to crank it up to max. volume - or does that mean that at the volume that I'm happy with I'll feel 10db less coming from the SB-2000 <30Hz?

The PC Ultra will play louder and cleaner with more extension into the lowest octave. Whether the $ difference is worth it to you is another story. If it were me I'd pony up for dual 2000's and get the discount for buying 2, vs just 1 Ultra.

Do you think it's worth getting duals - being that I have only one listening position?

Absolutely. 2 is always better than 1 ;).

Actually, you'll get better dispersion of LF with 2 sources vs just 1, depending upon how low you set the crossover. It's much easier to smooth response at the listening position, plus you get a greater out put.

Think about it in terms of driver surface area. you have 2 12" drivers vs 1 13.5". Both are being driven by 1000 watts o_O.

There are other factors of course, but for a room that size ease of setup would dictate the 2 vs 1 scenario.

Thanks, also to clarify, aside from having only one listening position, I don't want it to go any louder (I'm currently only on 25% of subwoofer amp volume and things REALLY shake)
Can you explain further the effect that I would see - also take into account that I have Goldenear Triton 2 fronts w/built in subs.

thx!

Well in your case it would be greater dispersion and control, and of course ease in getting the sound "dialed in" and matched to your current setup - since you're not looking for an increase in output.

You already have built in subs in your mains so you may even be able to set the crossover lower dependent upon your needs.

If you check my avatar - that's basically the setup I have with my SB-12's (older SVS model) and it works great.

Thanks - interesting that you have the SB12+ b/c someone near where I live is selling his (has one) and was interested to see the difference from what I currently have sub (20-39CS+) - though I couldn't add it as a 2nd as it wouldn't match since mine is ported. So it would have to be to replace mine, though I'm gathering not much of a difference.

It would if you blocked the port, but then you'd have 2 different looking subs and that would be wierd.
