Re: Time, Phase, and Distance alignment.

I have a pair of JL Audio E112's which I want to be certain are dialed in as well as possible. A comparatively unique feature of these subs is a continuously variable control for phase (as opposed to a 2 or 3 position switch, if that).

I have been letting Audyssey XT 32 take care of everything; however, I want to make certain I am getting all of the goody out of these fine subwoofers! Is setting the delay through Audyssey really assuring proper phase alignment?

If not, what is the best sequence of adjustment? Run Audyssey, then set phase, or flip flop?

I have an OmniMic that I need to pull out sometime, so if that is of use, now might be the time!

I only have a 2.1 system with 1 e112. I Bought The Soundoctor test cd to get mine calibrated. I haven't had a chance to do it yet, but he works for JL and it's sounds like a good system for setting phase and level matching.

How are you liking you JL's?

I love mine. It sounds amazing. I can't imagine what 2 would be like. As son as money allows I want another.

KEW, you've been doing this stuff long enough. You know how it's supposed to sound. Run the Audyssey then tweak it by ear until it sounds right, and stop obsessing o_O.

LOL, you are right.
I have been running dual E112's to compare against Rythmik E15HP's. While the E112's are very tight, the Rythmik E15HP's are tighter! I wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving any of the E112's performance on the table.

Wow! That's a statement! I would've expected it to go the other way.

Same here, I mean the E112 driver is humongous!
It certainly defied my expectations- I have been looking for an explanation, but not finding it outside the Rythmiks simply out-performing the E112's (for transient/tight and extension, I don't know or care about output - either will get way louder than I want to be present for).
The servo must be that good!

Here it is in a nutshell (thanks to Jim Wilson aka Jman for measurements!)
E15HP is below 80dB within ~5ms!

JL Audio is below 80dB within ~20ms! This chart looks great compared to most, but kind of nasty compared to the E15HP. You can see the "Bass Bloom" below ~40Hz.

Man, there needs to be a comparison article written. Like the one over on AA comparing the SVS SB-13 Ultra and the Rhytmik.
