S shadyJ Speaker of the House Staff member Feb 13, 2015 #3 A $15k 2.1 setup? If no WAF is needed, I would think about getting some JBL LSR6332s with some Funk 18.0 subs. For the amp and pre-amp, I would probably get something like a Marantz or Yamaha processor with some Outlaw monoblock amps. If WAF is a factor, I might go with some Funk 8.2 speakers.

I'd guess these are great electronics, since I 100% agree on SS8 - I haven't heard better speaker regardless of cost, including 100k Wilson Maxx Probably would even skip the sub. Splash more for fancy custom laminate.

Several years ago, I heard a pair of Wilson Sashas (I believe that was the model) at an audio show. They were dreadfully shrill. I had to leave the room. I don't remember their price, but it may have been $28,000 per pair . In the very next room were the new Philharmonic Audio 3 and the Salk SoundScapes. The comparison was startling. I've never bothered trying to hear another Wilson speaker since then.

S shadyJ Speaker of the House Staff member Feb 14, 2015 #6 A lot of people use Wilson speakers as a punching bag for the 'high cost does not equal good sound' argument, but on the occasions I have listened to Wilson speakers, they sounded fine to me. At least not bad in any way. Does the sound performance measure up to the cost, maybe not, but I didn't detect any problems with the ones I have heard, which have been a few different models. While they are definitely not my first choice at that price, I could easily live with them if I had to have a pair.

ImcLoud Audioholic Ninja Feb 14, 2015 #8 I would buy... Sierra Towers $2800 ULS15 dual drive $2450 XSP1 pre amp $899 {all emo stuff would be bstock} 2 XPa-1 mono blocks $2000 Emo cd player $300 XDA2 dac $200 Choseal speaker cables $100 music hall mmf 9.1 $1800 {I just like this table, my buddy has one, I just love it for some reason} Emotiva xpr cables to go from the preamp to the subs and mono blocks $250 VTI BL-404 stand for the preamp, cd player, DAC, turn table etc. $300 And then a pair of vti bl-404-01 stands to put the 2 mono blocks on separately... $200 I think that would be about the best 2.2 system I can come up with, I have listened to many systems and for music I like that right there done that exact way... Total Cost would be just over $11,000 but I would put it against systems 5 times that price.... NOW, if I was going 2 channel no subs I would do... Salk scape 8's with a pair of jc1's and the matching parasound stereo preamp at the time of purchase {p5 right now} I would use the same cables and have custom stands made in the same wood as the scapes I pick.. it would be just under $20K though
