Be Quiet Z. :) Hey Guys I'm looking to buy a slim 5.1 reciever maybe in the summertime/winter for my PJ setup and I thought maybe you can help me. I'm looking at the Marantz Slim line and it seems to be the only choice. I would be using a 3.1 setup if I do this setup only.

Marantz NR1403 Slim Line 5.1-Channel Home Theater AV Receiver
Is this the slimest/good sounding/cheapest out there?
Thanks in advance.

Adam has reviewed a couple of the Marantz slimline receivers. He liked them IIRC. You can probably find his reviews.

Sorry! I didn't see this until now.

Here's my review for the 1504.

Doesn't look like I posted my review for the 1604 here on Audioholics, but it's 7.1, anyway.

Back when I got those Marantz units, I noticed a couple of other brands. I thought Pioneer also made a slimline model, but I don't remember researching them much.

Whoops I put a disagree on Adam. My apologies It was a mistake I meant to say agree with the check mark. Nice and honest review, Adam. The menus do look kinda old, but I might just get it. I'm not really looking for a large setup with the PJ, just 3.1 + I don't need alot of power since I don't play it too loud. Too bad no other smaller options available in the 300 price range.

I use the nr1504 Afterlife... it really does serve me well, but -6db is the loudest that I will play it, which is plenty loud for me. Also keep in mind it does have a little bit of headroom with the front left and right pre outs.
I will be honest in the fact that I do have my eye on a unit with more channels and power for sometime in the future, for my needs atm this has been awesome... and I have a largish room at 2700 ft^3.

I wonder how the preouts are on these Marantz slimlines.
