I can listen to something like plain old rock on my car speakers but as soon as technical death metal comes on the music blurs into a mess whereas on my klipsch at home it sounds very distinct and detailed.

Click to expand... Don't mind TLS.. He thinks the only music on the planet worth listening too is classical.. the rest is noise. I feel sorry for him in this one respect because he is missing out on so much good music that speaks from the heart/soul

Yeah, they're just crappy GM strok speakers, but i've noticed this effect with any poor quality speakers. It doesn't have to be metal either, any fast music with a lot of complexity does it.

I find piano (not the electrical keyboard type) to be the most revealing in hearing distortion of all the instruments that I've encountered so far.

M markw Audioholic Overlord Jan 27, 2015 #10 What you describe doesn't sound like distortion per se, but more like a blown speaker or two, particularly if you play everything at the same volume. Either that, or you're driving the amp into severe clipping.
