i have an Oppo 83se that sees more blu ray use on a verylarge Mits DLP.. not sure i have any issue with fan noise as i have read but i do hate the clicking while watching a blu ray... i imagine its going down a layer or something... not sure.. i also have a nice collection of sacd's and dvd-a's recordings that i really enjoy on my 7.1 surround set up... my question is.. i do have someone interested in buying it from me as i have the upgrade bug... will i gain anything musically by spending the monies to get the Oppo 105 or 105d...? i am sure by now the click i hear when playing able ray has been fixed and that wouldn't be an issue... i know the 105 doesn't have a fan... no problem.. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.. thanks in advance..

Hi,

No OPPO has EVER "clicked"

My guess is you are hearing the sound of the relays in your AVR or Pre/Pro as they reacquire the HDMI audio bitstream.

IME it mainly occurs at the start of a movie when several promo trailers are shown and the movies Main Menu appears.

I believe the AVR or Pre/Pro has to lock on to the HDMI audio bitstream and it breaks as each new trailer kicks in.

Hearing this is common and actually a sign of high quality equipment.

But once the movie begins it should stop!!!

If, after close inspection, you still believe the clicking IS coming from the OPPO then I would definitely contact Customer Service!!!

On a side note the OPPO 105 IS a decent step up from your 83SE and offers higher quality audio with EXTRA attention paid to analog stereo output and way more cool features.

It's the EXACT upgrade path I took and I LOVE it.

Lastly, as you are using a Projector(?) you may benefit more with the 105D as the "D" indicates Darbee Video on board.

Darbee is a video enhancement tool that should make a MORE noticeable difference in PQ as the screen size increases.

Cheers

I had the 95 and now the 105 but never heard any clicking except the normal relay clicking that should not happen in the middle of a playback. If you want to upgrade for sound quality then I would recommend going with a HA-1 and a 103. Even a HA-1+ a cheap Sony BDP (one that plays SACD) may have your needs covered except for DVD-A.

In my book, this is definitely a BDP-103 or BDP-105 purchasing cue. Because you have SACD and DVD-A discs, avoid players which do not have an onboard DAC and Analog multi-channel outputs. You would most likely forfeit a certain degree of sound quality on playback, even through HDMI.
