Playback issues with HDMI cable

I use an HDMI cable to hook my PC to my TV to watch online vids, & the sound is great. However, when I tried to listen to my iTunes through this hookup, a few songs play through the speakers, then it reverts to the PC speakers. How can I get consistent sound? Do I need a cable to connect the PC directly to the receiver, or a DAC?

Connect the PC to the receiver, that will be best.

Whatever cabling you’re using to get the PC to the TV will work for the receiver too.

No, use an HDMI cable from your PC to your receiver.

No HDMI input on my receiver, it's analog (Rotel).

Whatever cabling you’re using to get the PC to the TV will work for the receiver too.

What analog outputs are available from your PC? Most PC have mini phone plug outputs and you can use a cable like this.

It is hard to know what you need, as we can't see your PC and interconnect facilities are very variable. You will have to look at your PC and see what outputs are available, that your receiver can accept. If you can post a link to what PC you have, that would be very helpful. At the moment we are running blind.

I have an HP laptop with these ports: 1 HDMI, 3 USB, 1 headphone. When I hook it up to my small computer speakers, it's a cable similar to this that goes from the subwoofer to my phone port. So, maybe something like you're showing from my phone port to the matching input on my receiver?
