I want to compare two pairs of subs.
My Audioholism has led to my owning two pairs of BS-22, and Denon AVR-4311 & AVR-X4000 (both of which run Audyssey MultiEQ XT32)
My intent is to set up these systems so the only difference in components is the subs (I consider the X4000 and the 4311 equivalent as long as I am not pushing their power limits) and be able to instantly switch between them to hear differences between the subs.
I do not want to use pre amp outputs because I want to let each receiver run Audyssey within its own system.

I did the equivalent in the past using the tape deck out from one receiver to feed the second on Marantz SR6001's; however, neither of these Denons have a tape out.
I have tried to use the HDMI and DVR outputs (analog & optical), but no signal gets transferred from one unit to the other.
I have gone to the setup > source select to make sure the correct input is enabled for the correct source.

At this point, I am convinced that there is some type of logic/circuitry that is disabling output which I don't know about or (more likely) I am having an epic brain fart!

Any ideas?

TIA!

Okay, I have a solution. My Blu-Ray outputs both Optical and HDMI so I can route one of these to each of the receivers. Only effective for the BluRay, but that is okay as I can play CDs through it.

I'm still curious about the other if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks!

The DVR outputs on the 4311 and the Media Player outputs on the 4000 are analog and therefore will work as long as you have an analog signal source. So will the Zone 2 and 3.

Thanks Wayne, not sure i would have ever figured that out, but it makes sense.
My problem is I was trying to go from optical/HDMI input to analog out.

Am I correct in assuming I cannot take an HDMI input and output it via optical?

Correct because of the copyright protection. Doesn't the 4000 have an HDMI out? Can you run that HDMI out of the 4000 to the HDMI input of other receiver?

I think I tried that, but just did it again and no go!

Just last night I dug out an old technics stereo receiver I used to use befor I upgraded to my only I nr 809. So I have a 7.2 receiver now and two of the 7 are mirage os3 tower speakers. I wanted to use the pre outs on the on yo with the technics for some extra push for the towers. I don't feel like they're getting the power that's really needed to get the full experience of the speakers. The tweeter up top is the dominant sound the rest of the cones and speakers in tower are really low and unimpressive sound wise. So I tried hooking these two up last night and had zero sound coming from the towers when I tried to pass them thru the technics receiver. Anybody have any ideas why this is???
