Greetings audioholics, I want to start out by saying I've never owned a AV stereo before and have limited knowledge on brands/quality,

Been using a cheap VM Audio 5.1 stereo i bought off eBay last Xmas and am ready to upgrade to a real stereo,

I recently purchased a Yamaha htr- 5320 "if I remember correctly " at a flea market for $30 , and found a guy online who had a "6pc" set Onkyo Skb-520 speakers for $40, but sadly the Yamaha was defective and would only output 2 channel sound. L/R front, i tried everything . But they did sound way better than my VM Audio cheapy. I'm guessing maybe the 5.1 channels are fried. So I've decided to buy a new reciever. I'm also needing a subwoofer.

Trying to get the best sound quality i can for the lowest price my living room is roughly 14x18 ft. Small. I don't really need any fancy high end features just good sound quality in a 5.1-7.1 configuration. Been looking at the Sony STR-520 7.1 "refurbished" currently on eBay "newegg" for $139.99 but have read that the onkyo and denon av receivers sound quality surpass it. And being my living space is so small i don't think 7.1 is necessary. I'm looking for the biggest bang for the buck and I'm sure I'll be easily impressed with any of them considering what I'm coming from.

The subwoofer I've been considering pairing with it is the Polk audio PSW series either a 10" or "12 . Been hearing good things about the PSW505 i want something brutal by comparison to what i have.

I watch movies. Play PlayStation 4 and listen to heavy metal.

Thank you, after i posted this last night i came across the Denon AVR-e200, and e300, and have been considering them as well, they seem to be solid units but I'll continue researching further, i always try to follow the "do it once, do it right " policy when buying any electronics,

Lots of people here, including me, own and like Denon. Look for the features you want, and spend some time shopping for price. There are some really good deals on NIB from authorized sellers out there.

Well i think I've settled on a Model/ Brand.

I'm gonna go with the Denon AVR-S500bt 5.2 Channel.

It lacks airplay which is fine as i own no Apple devices. It lacks networking which is also fine as i live in a rural area with no internet other than what i tether through my android.

It has Bluetooth which I'll likely use as well as having the extra subwoofer channel so i can get 2 kickers goin. :) as well as 4k compatibility so when i get my 4k tv in a year or two I'll already be set.

Was thinking of going cheap with a e200 or e300. And considered the e400 as well but figured why pay for what i won't really use. I have no desire to get an iPhone and i doubt affordable high speed internet will be coming my way anytime soon.

If anyone knows more praises/downers to this unit let me know. Thanks
