Hello,

I am replacing my 25 year stereo. Receiver will be Sony STR-DN1050 (7.2 channel). Speakers will be the Pioneer Andrew Jones set. I would like, however, to leave out the sub included in that set and buy an SVS sub.

This will be setup in the basement (L shaped) which is 2,000 cubic feet and open with a staircase (no door at the top of the stairs). Using the Merlin guide on the SVS website, it recommends a PB-2000 to go with my Pioneer FS52 floor speakers. Since I will be using this system for both music listening and movie viewing, I decided to go with dual subs (I also like the idea of a smooth frequency response throughout the room).

I am really confused as to whether the PB-1000's or PB-2000's would be better. (Or a different pair of subs altogether?) I like the idea of having subs that can really hit the low end powerfully and cleanly when needed. I don't want the room to be overpowered by the subs.

Based purely on room size and the equipment I'll be using, what would others recommend between dual PB-1000's and dual PB-2000's?

The answer is simple... the PB2000 will be better but the PB1000 will cost less. ☺
Based on the room size and your equipment choice, id say save your money. Get the PB1000 and dont look back. ☺

Rythmiks has a sale on their LV12R including shipping for $549.00 which in capablilites slots between the PB1000 and the PB2000 . I own one and I can say that its a really articulate sub that is able to hit 20Hz with authority.

From the review below...

Conclusion
To quote the oft repeated line from the famous (infamous?) ring announcer Michael Buffer; are you ready to rummmmble?. You had better be if you buy the Rythmik LV12R, because it certainly is. This subwoofer combines power, depth and poise in equal parts. It's on the large side, and a bit generic in appearance, but for sound quality it's the yardstick to use when measuring any subwoofer costing less than $600. The Rythmik LV12R is nothing short of amazing, and well worth the asking price.

Well, I'm probably the "black sheep" when it comes to subwoofer recommendation. :)

But in the $800 subwoofer price range (street price, not MSRP), I would get dual RBH SX-1010N passive subs and use an external amp to power them.

For cheaper, I would get dual RBH SI-1010N or dual RBH SI-12N subs. These are labeled "in-floor", but they work just as well as any passive free-standing sub and have the same aluminum drivers as the other RBH non-reference subs & speakers.

Yeah, yeah, black sheep, I know. :)
