Why are people still buying CD players?

I ripped my CDs to iTunes. iTunes crashed and corrupted the music library ... I re-ripped the 100+ CDs I have ... it worked for over a year and crashed again ... that was it. I received an iPod years ago, sync'ed my music over, and tried it out. The sound quality was not good compared to my old Panasonic ($40) portable CD player. I gave my iPod away.

Yes, I am looking to buy a decent CD player ;-)

The only regret I have about buying an expensive cd player, is not buying a Mcintosh unit. At this price range, I doubt there are many, if any differences in sound quality and I really would have liked to have an all Mcintosh system.

Honestly I like a system with mixed components...
NOW I have seen a system {a friend of a friend} with 4 mcintosh mono blocks {2 of the 1200 watts running a pair of subs, and 2 of the 600w running a pair of towers, they actually make a larger amp too, its like 2200x1}, the cd player, tuner, turntable, pre amp, power controller, room corrector, 2 ipods with the mcintosh software on them, and other stuff I am sure I am forgetting, they were powering some custom made {peter comeau designed} speakers with a pair of dual 16" subs {I never even knew they made 16" subs, they were focal brand custom made enclosures maybe even custom subs}. There was 10 Mcintosh boxes plus the turntable!!! That was impressive, I didn't want to ask what it all cost, but I was told the cables, stands, speaker shipping, design costs, and room setup/ treatments/ electrical wiring /ect was over $50K!!!

So in that case all mcintosh was pretty cool, but you have a few other brand components shows you have other tastes too.. The adcom unit is a very very nice cd player... I don't have any expensive ones any more, I love these little parasound zcd's, I have 2 of them, and they work awesome... I do like the creed evo 50 players, the things are like silk loading the cd's but that is not enough to make me spend $1500...

Love my Parasound Zcd - still trying to sort out which dac sounds better.. That or the one in my NAD D 3020
Both get it done but I'll probably use the Parasound as I can use the extra analog in for my turntable.

I actually use a DVD player to play CD's. Well, actually it's a Denon DVD-1940CI, an almost universal player. It does CD, SACD, DVD-A, DVD's, has 5.1 analog audio outputs, sounds great, and if it did Blu-Ray, it would be perfect.

If you rip your CDs to lossless files like ALAC and store the files into 2 or 3 HDDs, you would not lose them.

And lossless files sound exactly like the original CDs if you stream them to your AVR or pre-pro.

I love not using any CD players or BD players because 1) I am cheap, 2) I like to cut out the middleman, and 3) lossless files sound exactly the same as CDs to me.

As long as you keep your physical media as backup copies and multiple backups of your music files, your OK. As soon as you get rid of your physical media, you stand a chance to loose it on corruption.

That is SOOOOOOOOOO weird. I've never ever ran into this problem ever. Even my oldest DVDs still play without glitches.

Same thing happened with my Alien Vs Predator BD. Somehow got corrupted and unplayable even though the disc itself looked perfect physically.

That changed my POV on physical media.

I have a lot more digital media now than physical media and I've never had an issue with file corruption. I have 3 HTPCs with identical media files.

Wow, you really got shafted there. Sorry to hear that. I suppose it can happen though.... It doesn't change my mind on physical media as my experience has been 100% fail safe
