On my Crown the gains are only 75% of the way up. So I don't get any hiss and I have zero issue driving them with a Pro-Audio sound card.

You would most likely be better off with the Emotiva and it's consumer level inputs.

Ok so returned the Crown today... Thank god Amazon is so painless.
As of right now there is a Carver TFM 35x listed on ebay that is up in San Jose. I have made contact with the seller who is willing to let me go up and test it, so I am going to go do that this week because I am on vacation. Im just ready to re list these... this is too complicated

That's super that he'd let you do that. Will you be testing with your speakers and pre amp?
I'm not sre about the sensitivity of your Vandys, but my speakers sensitivity I think
is in large, why my new AVR(s) have to work so hard. I don't get any noise though.
When I use my old pre amp for 2ch, all issues are gone, except no surround capabilities.
I am positive that my speakers being difficult to drive, is the downfall of the AVR
if you followed that thread any at all. I can't see me ever relacing my Carver.

I had the TFM 35 and was a great amp, the 1.5 wasn't bad either, although my cousin destroyed them both and lost the pre-amp to them on top of that.

What did you decide on your speakers and amp?

oh it was complicated... but it is done for now. The carver ended up not working. I was going to get the emotiva but then noticed the depth on the amp was 17 inches which was way to big for where I needed it to go. Then while surfing ebay I noticed an Adcom GFA 5400 buy it now for 200 shipped. I nabbed that one, it got here a few days ago and works great and takes a lot of strain off my receiver, and fits where I need it to go. Now that all of that is set up I have to pull it all out on Friday so I can get the floors in my living room patched and re sealed. This amazing deal that I got on these speakers has really turned into a big headache, I think I'm done with the impulsive audio buys. atleast until I see that next awesome deal.

I'm having an interesting time figuring out which sub(s) I want to use and how to fit all this stuff into my space. The main thing is that I have them wired up and dialed in. Dennis took care of them sounding nice.
