No Netflix Through My Panny DMP-BD85

Last night the wife and I decided to give Netflix a try and, since the DMP-BD85 has a Netflix app, we figured we were set. So, we set up our account on-line and when I tried to access Netflix through the BD player, we received the message "This device cannot support Netflix in your area" (or words to that effect). That means not in Canada. A quick Google search confirmed that it's no glitch. Since the account is already set up, I guess I need to get a media streaming device ASAP. I figure I'll get the Roku 3. I hope it plays nice with my RX-V1800, because that's where it'll have to be connected...

It might be a bit technical (ok A LOT Technical), if you setup VPN tunnel to US based service on your home router you should be able to trick your BD player :)

Also If Netflix is officially available north of the border, devices like Roku and Amazon Fire TV should work (I would pick the later)

Yeah, I know some do access the US Netflix, but I don't feel inclined to go through that trouble. I know a couple of guys who have Roku devices that work perfectly. I hadn't heard of Amazon Fire TV before.

I have a Western Digital hooked up to my RX-V1800 and a Roku3 connected directly to the bedroom TV. To get the US Netflix, you need to set up the DNS lookup with US based IP addresses at the router/cable modem end.

I've signed up to blockless tv ( https://www.blockless.com/ ) that for $30 every 6 monthes will supply you with DNS IPs from anywhere inthe world. The best part is that they offer you a 1week trial. Its well worth it.

The WD allows you to edit the DNS server lookup but the Roku doesn't. The ROKU uses the configuration from one's router/cable modem.

I think Amazon Fire TV is still USA only for now - I own both, and the Roku 3 is good for what it can do.

Well, I went with the Roku 3. Picked it up after supper and setup was a breeze. I think I'm going to like this.:) Just need to set it up on the Harmony 880.

Roku...is nice....Apple TV works well to...since, I have a fairly large i-Tunes library I subscribed to i-cloud and play all my music wireless. Its a simple and handy service...easy for the wife & kids...controlled from my laptop or H/T. Lots of free i-Tunes concerts...watched Soundgarden a while back and Lenny Kravitz the other night...
