I have a ground loop (60hz buzz) in my system. I spent some time this weekend and narrowed it down to the connection between the gear in the media closet and the PJ in the room. No matter the combination of gear connected between the PJ (ie; Oppo to PJ via HDMI, or Pre/Pro to PJ via HDMI), the buzz is still there.
This is what I found:
If I disconnect the HDMI from the PJ the noise goes away.
If I unplug the power from the PJ the noise goes away.
If I run an extension cord from the PJ to the media closet and connect everything at the same outlet, the noise goes away.
If I use a cheater plug (2 prong) on the PJ, the noise is greatly diminished. So, at this point, I'm not sure what my options are.
I have a couple cat5 runs from the media closet to the PJ which I could possibly use to tie a common ground for each piece of gear to. I have read and found the "Hum X", and it's a potential solution.
Any suggestions for eliminating this hum that doesn't require an extension cord or a cheater plug?
(FWIW, I do have an RG6 run tied in to the system that contributes VERY LITTLE hum to the system; overall DTV seems to have done a good job grounding this piece according to my eye-check at the main feed and outside.)
