Okay so I have a yamaha 467 and a pioneer sw-8mk2 sub. I am plugging the sub into the subwoofer line out on the receiver and the lfe port on the sub. I am hearing no sound coming out of the sub. I have tried to multiple settings on the receiver and have failed. Please help.

Did you answer yes, in the receiver menu for having a sub?

Have you turned the switch on, or auto - in the back of your sub?

Welcome to the forum!

Do you hear any sound from the sub when you go through the YPAO setup on the Yamaha? If so, but you don't hear any when you are listening to music/movies/TV, then it might be because your speakers are set to "large." Let us know if you hear anything during the setup, and we can start walking through the troubleshooting.

So another question here. From what I understand, the frequency on the sub wont matter because that is controlled by the receiver. Is the correct? Also I want to make sure the cross over in the receiver settings matches that of the speakers? let me know if that is correct or makes any sense. I am pretty new at this.

Awesome, glad that worked!

As for the frequency dial on the sub, you'll want to set that as high as possible (150 Hz) to avoid having the sub filter out any frequencies. Like you said, you're having the receiver do that, so you don't want to have the sub filter out anything. Some subs have a switch or special input that lets you bypass the crossover in the sub, but I don't see that on the Pioneer.

Which speakers are you using? We can check their specs and let you know what we think would be a good crossover setting.

I have the Pioneer bs22-lr. Just the 2 for now saving up for the center speaker and the rears.

There are other folks here who probably know the shape of the frequency response for those speakers, but I don't, so I'm just going off of the spec sheet. Those are rated down to 55 Hz (I'm guessing at -3dB, but it doesn't say). I think 80 Hz is a good place to start for the crossover. It's the recommendation from THX, and it's what I use. My bookshelf speakers are also rated similarly to yours. I say start at 80 Hz and experiment a little to see what sounds good to you.

-3 db around 63 hz > 80 hz is a good place to start - they do have nice bass
