By "stream," do you mean that your PC and DAC are not located close enough to use a digital audio cable? What type of digital input is it - coax or optical?

If you want to do wireless and optical, then an Apple Airport Express might work well for you.

I want to be able to put a cd in my laptop and play it through the stereo from 20 feet away, no cable, I could probably get a cable long enough but i would forget aabout it and walk away with the laptop and pull the stereo apart...

I can use coax or opt for the inputs...

An Airport Express might be a good option for you, then. I use DLNA to stream video and music, but I'm used to having a video interface on the client (e.g. my blu-ray player) to see it.

He is trying to play the physical CD from his laptop's optical drive and transmit the sound to his DAC 20 ft away. I don't see how an airport express would help him.

Because Airport Expresses let you transmit music over WiFi to an optical output on the Express.

Good question. I'm assuming so, but I figure Irv can look into it. I was just trying to point him in what I think is the right direction.

Besides, what's a rich dude like Irv doing on Windows? :D

Real nice guys, :D

Yes I am cheap, other wise I would just put sonos all over the place... I don't think the apple will work, my head hurts after researching it for an hour...

He might be cheap, how do you think he got rich?

Besides, wealth is not always measured monetarily.

Wouldn't a simple Bluetooth dongle like chromecast work? Im pretty pc handicapped myself.

My PC's already have blue tooth, the dac does not, that is the issue, I have routers in the house as well as wired ethernet everywhere {3000ft of cat cable throughout}..

I am very pc handicapped also...

Well time for bed, it was a long night, 5am maybe I can get 2 hours before the kids go to school..

No, but iTunes (on windows) is capable of playing the CD AND redirect output (using bonjour protocol) to Apple's airport express
It doesn't have to be latest model. Plenty of used ones on ebay

I think Adam is on the right track
