Which receiver brand

I have two polk tsi400's for my fronts.

Then a klipsch quintet III system for my sides and center. Also a klipsch 12" sub.

I will be upgrading the klipsch quintet soon to something better most likely. I am also thinking of building some Dayton 8 speakers.

What do you guys think with those speakers?
For me, I would upgrade the speakers and get a center that would match the fronts.
The Quintet III can be OK for surrounds - so you can work on a receiver.

The biggest difference in sound comes from the speakers, not the receiver.

Now if you wish to keep the Polk, then that is up to you - at least do something
about the center channel.

Your option, choice and call.

I've never heard them, so can't really give you an honest answer on that. However, Polk is enjoyed by many. These seem to be pretty sensitive and an easy load. They're rated for 200watts-rms, which means they're likely excursion limited for that extra low end response.

I think your best move now is to get the center channel (CS series) to replace the Klipsch. Lots of the content from movies comes out of the center channel, so your really short changing yourself there. The rears, if/when budget allows, would probably be best to be matched as well but that's not essential.

Ok yea I was thinking about upgrading the center.

What do you mean by- they are likely excursion limited for the extra low response.

Are they any good articles about speaker placement?

As far as receiver, I am going to recommend staying away from Onkyo/Integra. This is coming from a guy who has a DHC 80.3 Pre/Pro and 30.5 Receiver from Integra.

I was chatting up my dealer when I picked up the Triton Ones and he was telling me he was dropping the brand because it was costing him too much money. Apparently he has had a large amount of issues, even with the newer models of the HDMI boards and other misc issues (usually after about a year)

Don't get me wrong, I like my Integra's no complaints about sound and haven't had any issues personally, but I can assure you my next Pre/Pro or receiver will not be Integra or Onkyo.

For a while the Onkyo Pre-Pro like I have was a good deal, could get it for 1,200-1,300USD and had balanced outputs (a big deal for my system since the amps are all balanced and speakers are high sensitivity). It's been reliable and performs well.. haven't had any problems. RMK had the same, later went to Integra for the balanced outputs and height channels..

Denon gets really pricey for a balanced out pre-processor.

Now the new Onkyo and Integras with balanced outputs are much more than they used to be.

That said, unlike years ago, there have been a lot less reasons to upgrade lately hehe. Some people did for 3D (flop). Some did for 4k (hope you have a project or sit extremely close to the TV). Atmos.. is well... Atmos *sigh* lol.

OP, if you think replacing your receiver will scratch your itch for better sound then you're looking for love in all the wrong places.

speakers are the key. My Denon 2802 is still singing happily and it doesn't even have HDMI.

Those are all good choices. I have owned one of each of them. I like Denon the best for overall sound quality and value. You could also consider Marantz.
