So, I'm not sure what to set my DVR to record this fall. True Blood is getting ready to end on Sunday. The current season of So You Think You Can Dance ends soon. The Sing-Off won't be on till November, if it has been renewed at all. I'm out of Games of Throneses, Sherlocks, Downton Abbys, 24s.... I thoroughly enjoyed the first couple of episodes of Halt and Catch Fire, but I couldn't get my wife into it. About all we've got to look forward to are college football and Jon Stewart. What are you guys excited to watch? Are there any good historical dramas these days? My wife and I really enjoyed The Tudors when it was on.

I just get OTA channels, but I like Castle, Supernatural, and Arrow. I also watch Agents of Shield (some episodes are good, some okay).

If I had cable, I'd watch (because I watch them once they are online) White Collar and Suits.

It's a littl;e late now but we've been following "Tyrant" on FX. If you get on demand (or some such), it's riviting, at least in our book. Also, "Outlander" on Starz is off to a good start and it's only aired it's second episode so far.

As far as OTA, we've likes "The Strain" and "Arrow", "Agents of Shield" and are looking forward to "The Flash" and "Gotham".

there's enough ugly reality in the news so a bit of fantasy where the good guys win is welcome.

Rectify is a great moody show. S1 is on Netflix. There is a aussie series that is sort of like a miniseries on Nerflix called i think it's called Secrets and lies. The lead actor is really good. Ill mention more later.

Even though I have cable I don't use a DVR what's the point with on demand, hulu and netflix. I normally watch TV shows via Netflix. Hulu is my next line and my last line is actually watching the on demand recording. I use cable for sports.

I'm currently watching Pysch, Continuum, Last Man Standing, Falling Skies and White Collar.

As far as active TV shows I like. The Walking Dead and Arrow are probably my two favorites. Game of Thrones is okay, but the books while very long should be read before you watch the show IMO. There is so much you just never find out in the show. Be warned though Martin may never actually finish the series.

I think Comics make much better tv shows than books, but at least they didn't try to make Game of Thrones into movies.

I've been watching "The Leftovers" on HBO. Definitely dark, strange, and not for everyone. I also like "The Americans" on FX when it's running new episodes.

Some of my favorites recently:

True Detective:
Sooo good. Check out the trailer. I'm generally not a detective show fan either (besides this and The Shield), but this is so much more...

Orange is the New Black:
Same writer as Weed's... it's got similar humor mixed with real struggle and some political commentary..
Perfect example from trailer: "I have been felt up, stalked, and called Tailor Swift.. so would you please just cut me some slack!"

Also..
Follow the "What are you watching tonight?" thread for sure. Movies are discussed, but also lots of TV shows. Last month or so lots of TV shows have been talked about...Maybe start a few pages back and browse:

I get most ideas for what to watch from that thread. :)

It's tough to find a good series on TV that you may have missed originally.
They don't always show them in order.
Is Netflix an option?
It's a good source for recent shows, like Dexter, Breaking Bad.

There's a whole series of Alaska based shows. I watch these regularly : Alaska the Last Frontier TV Schedule : Discovery Channel and Mountain Men - Episodes, Video & Schedule - HISTORY.com
I don't have a Netflix subscription, but I can usually find TV series by other means. Dexter was great. I got about halfway through the second season of Breaking Bad and lost interest, though.

True Detective looks very interesting. I really like smart guy shows, like House and Lie To Me. I might have to watch an episode or two with the wife and see what she thinks.

Orange Is the New Black makes me unpleasantly and unenjoyably anxious -- probably the same reason I gave up on Breaking Bad. I'm not sure how to explain why. I think I just dislike oppressive, dystopic settings, for the most part.

True Detective and markw's suggestion of Outlander look the most interesting to me so far. I know lots of people like Supernatural as well, judging from some memes I've seen here and there.

Lots of great suggestions! Keep them coming. :)

I'll have to check that out.

Here's a spoof that's probably considered funny in some places:

Haha. Yeah, he needed to meet up with another true stoner (Woody Harrelson) for True Detective to take place haha.

Fool's Gold, haha, I remember that movie. That was terrible... he did it for the fems and $? ;)

Going back to True Detective.
I've read a few Netflix reviews, most say to use subtitles.
Many read like this, "Could not understand at least 90% of McConahy's speech."
I'll be watching tonight, on demand. I won't have subtitles.
How was your experience?
Thanks,
Rick

Another vote for Orphan Black. Season 1 was better than season 2 but the fact that Tatiana Maslany hasn't been nominated for an Emmy is an absolute travesty!

He does use a thick accent and a sullen tone, but the dialog is well recorded. A few others have watched it on the forums and I didn't hear anyone talk about issues with intelligibility, you should be fine. I would imagine many watch it on TV or laptop speakers, with a nice system the dialog will be much easier to understand.

Let me know how you like it!
