I saw one of these today at a used HiFi stor for $99.00 I'm tempted to pick it up but I can only put it in my 2ndary system as I do not have a tape monitor loop on the Yammy

This is for dynamic range expansion... experimentation? Personally, I think you'd be less than impressed when you hear the effect, but for $99 it's a cheap lesson. :)

Agreed, unless your running tape, and good tape not much use.

$99 is not too much to waste. However, I remember those units and they are awful. If you use them at a level where you can't tell the difference well and good. However if you do expand, you will get a lot of pumping and breathing. I doubt you will use this. The other issue is that they are a good unit for blowing speakers.

We used to call them dynamic range expander. I had the DBX but as I remember it was a very high priced unit for them days. Back then it was the more gear you put into the mix the better it seemed to sound. Well things sure have changed.
