There are bunches of little boxes like these on Amazon, all of which have very mediocre user ratings. Not all HDMI signal has HDCP restrictions (over-the-air ATSC tuners and PC video for example, I guess?), so these converters have their uses on occasion. But I doubt they'd do much good for Blu-Ray movies or HBO.

I hear you. In my case, I would use it to connect a BluRay player to my 14 yr old 32" Toshiba TV that just refuses to die Picture quality is still good unfortunately. I expect resolution loss with a box like this but since I'm going to a TV that only does 480i, the resolution loss of the conversion by the box becomes moot.
