Look what I am playing with right now..

While waiting for my Parasound P5 to get back from Parasound service, I took my Klipsch RF82's out of my HT set up, hooked up the Emotiva xda-1 to the Marantz PM8004. Running some hi-rez tracks through it as well as some CD's off the IMac... Sounds pretty dam good compared to my other gear. Now the horn tweeters were toned down a little with the treble and mid adjustment. It was just way to bright compared to my RBH speakers. I never did try these speakers or this set up in the past and I have had this gear for a while. Fun playing with different gear at times just to get a real appreciation for your main system. I was board on my day off too.......

I've given some thought to these and the RC-64II center. It seems my room eats high frequencies as MultEQ XT always wants to boost 3-4k and up by 5dB's or more. I remember listening to these at a shop named Ultimate Electronics years ago. Thought they sounded pretty good, but it was so long ago, not in my room, etc.

Sadly, it's the aggressive voicing of speakers like Klipsch that gives horns such a stigma.

No even in the same ball park as RBH I am afraid. That's my opinion however. Don't get me wrong, put a less harsh tweeter on them and fix a little bit of the mid range and they would be great for the money.. I got these a few years ago when a store went out of business. I waited almost 30 days and on the last day I went into the store and got the pair for $550.00
Cain't complain on these. The center channel almost cost as much to match them however.

Not sure how low those Klipsch tweets hold a pattern so this may or may not be applicable, but perhaps try setting them up like so and see if the imaging improves. That would also get you off the tweet axis.

Good find. If the room is right, controlled dispersion horns really benefit from being toed in a bit in front of the listening position. Opens up the soundstage by reflections from the adjacent wall.

Bingo!

The midrange of the Reference series, seems to be lacking definition and resolution.
The tweeter tends to be sharp/edgy and a little forward of the midrange.

However, a lot of people seem to like them - and they are popular for Movies/TV

Makes me wonder why people don't look at the newest JBL Studio line. The 580's and 590's really intrigue me for the money.

I think more people are but aren't saying much about them. Maybe it's the non traditional look. Maybe not. Infinity is coming out with some higher end speakers too. You really can get a great set of speakers under 1500. My RBH Sound are the best at what they do but they also cost a lot more. For just plain rocking out to TOOL etc, the Klipsch do a fantastic job.
