As long as you don't drive it into clipping and use your head and ears. If it starts to sound bad, turn it down now. And, this holds true even if you were drving them with a 50, 100 or even a 200 watt amp.

What did your question have to do with ohms?

The JBL 130s have a sensitivity of 87dB. Meaning with only 1 watt they will play 87dB at 3 feet away. If your 10 feet away that will drop to around 80dB. That's pretty loud. Sound like you will be using less than 1 watt most of the time, you will be fine.

So you would trust the output of the boom box amp? Based on his frequency response in other threads that would mean that it would clip easily, don't encourage as its not good advice. If he listens at extremely low volume then maybe, but when he damages his speakers he will be back complaining. IIRC 12 watts with extreme limited bandwith, ie 100kh to 10000kh

I don't understand what your saying at all. I don't know about any other threads.

He said no loud music, to most people that means 50-80dB. His speakers have a 87dB sensitivity, with simple math you can figure out exactly what volume you can get at a given distance. The fact is he won't be using more than 1 watt unless his room is huge. There is no way his amp is going to clip at 1 watt. I've sat and watched power gauges on Mcintosh amps while listening to music loudly, the speakers which had 90dB sensitivity never drew more than a few watts. At some points during loud passages the meter would spike to 5 watts. He's going to be perfectly fine. 20 watts is overkill for what he's doing. How much power do you want him to have? 40 watts? That will only give him a whopping 3dB of headroom. My 90 watt yamaha AVR can hit reference levels(105dB peaks) in my room, and my amp can only play about 6dB louder than his with all else being the same. He would even be perfectly fine with a 4 watt amp for what he is proposing. I don't get why everyone is so apprehensive , it's simple math and physics.

His amp specs
15 watts per channel rated at 1 kHz
12 watts per channel rated at 120-10,000 Hz

I'm no math genius but I'll fathom to say that if you think it's sound advice then subscribe to his threads and be his personal mentor :p

Let's compromise on this one, guys. The kid drops little bits and pieces of pertinent info in different places, like an un housebroken puppy so getting all the facts in one place is a challenge.

Yes, if he plays it weally, weally low they will survive but if he tries to get any decent sound out of those widdle bitty speakers with that wheezy amp, he may lose 'em, or at least the tweeters. YMMV

good post 2nd. I will wait until I get a decent used amp on Ebay. I am not worried about. I tried the 130s and they just dont sound that good even with talk..
the little cheap sony speakers that came with the unit are better. Maybe a nice Onkyo or Yamaha will help them.
One other thing.. New Jersey is a cesspool of slimy corrupt greaseballs that miss the point of life Totally.
