Anyone out there run a set up like this?

Just curious. I was reading a lot of good stuff on this NuForce when it came out. Some pro reviews called it the most transparent pre they have heard. Now they dropped the price a lot. I just wonder how nice this would be in a two channel system but also having the option to go muti channel... I also wonder if the Oppo already has a volume control, what's the point of using the NuForce with it?? I am not buying this by the way. I have bigger plans coming in the near future.
Items in question for set up...

NuForce MCP-18
Oppo BDP-105D
Your choice 2 channel amp.

Audio advisor has demo mcp-18 for 540.00
could be a great deal, overstock situation, new model forthcoming, or an unknown issue with the model.
Cheers, Mac

What features from the NuForce do you need that are not provided by connecting the 105D directly to your amp of choice?

That is part of the question. Would the Nuforce give you better control over the Oppo as far as volume.

This bobby is going to cost you some money. By the time you "finish", you will have owned 20 pairs of speakers, 10 subs, pre-pros, preamps, integrated amps, DAC, different amps, AVRs, universal players, and something else.

And then after all that, you will sell everything and own five towers, 1 AVR, and an iPad. :D

Ha.. I sold an Ipad a while back and need another one. I don't like the Android tab. I have stopped buying stuff in my other hobby to allocate my spending to this one. I like buying and selling to get new stuff and try out. It's at a bit of a loss however. In fact, I thought about selling the RBH after the bloated bass sound but that would be a mistake. Shipping something like these is a pain and it's an easy fix to adjust the bass.

I have always had a soft spot for Onkyo. I guess it's because it was the first good receiver I ever owned. In fact it was the first thing I financed to establish some credit when I was around 19 years old. I still own it too. I have owned three of them along with one of their CD players over the years. All of them were solid without one issue at all... Ever.

Yup, the bass on the tower can be actively bi-amped to decrease or increase the bass independently.

This has more inputs than the HA-1 but costs more too.
FYI, the HA-1 gets hot due to its class-a headphone amp.

- Rich
That HA-1 looks really cool. Is there any advantage to it over the BDP-105? I guess there would be or they wouldn't have made it.

I like everything about the onkyo, having said that I'd still insert and EQ between mains and subs. The specs on the onkyo are pretty impressive

Advantages of HA-1:

Class-A headphone amp.
Size.
Heats your room :D

Advantages of Oppo BDP-105D:

Multichannel
Network streaming without USB DAC
Plays Disks
Crossover settings
Video inputs

They sound similar but not exactly the same. The HA-1 has more detail on the top end and a more controlled bass.
The 105D is a warmer sound. If you need video, the 105D is the way to go.
If you really want 2-channel system driven by a DAC or have high-end headphone that are hard to drive the HA-1 is a good choice.
I use the 105D as my preamp and the HA-1 for all 2 channel.

J River has a lot of DSP functionality and DIRAC is available on the PC if you want to get into equalization.

I got into headphones for a short while. Owned the Beyer T1's and Grado PS500. Just enjoyed my music way more on speakers. I should have held on to the Beyer's however.
