Greetings - First let me thank all of you Audioholics who participate in the excellent posts. I've recently made several purchases based in large part from my learnings as a "silent listener" to a number of threads here. Invaluable info...Thanks.
Recently moved into a new house and decided to update key components. The living room is also the listening / theater room, which opens to a counter and kitchen. Main listening area is approx. 12w x 16d X 9h. Behind the rears, the room maintains width, but adds another 15' deep to the back kitchen wall. Pictures to follow if there is some interest in them.
A quick list of what I'm working with:
- AVR - Yamaha A3030 - New
- AMP - Emotiva XPA5 - New
- DVD - OPPO 103D - New
- Game - PS4
- Sub - SVS PB2000 - New
- Fronts - B&W 805 Nautilus
- Center - B&W HTM1 Nautilus
- Rears - B&W SCM1 Nautilus
- Power - Monster Reference HTS-5000
- Display - Sharp 70" LED 1080p
- Remote - Harmony Ultra
I have the speakers set about 8 1/2 ft. Sub just inside the left speaker. Surrounds on directly behind the couch on stands at ear level. My initial questions are around Initial Setup and calibration. I've used the YPAO's calibration and it does a good job for movies. However, it defaults to setting my speakers at Large and takes the sub out of the mix for both cable broadcasts and stereo listening. i can manually set it them to Small which brings the sub in for everything - my desired goal.
Question 1 - Can the Yamaha use YPAO with a forced setting of Small? And if not, can I use YPAO, copy the data from the log, and then reliably use that data to manually calibrate? PS - I have one of the fantastic old RadioShack analog SPL's and am hilariously dangerous with it.
This is my first foray into a good quality sub. I've always been an auto calibration "set it and forget it" guy. So...
Question 2 - How would you recommend setting up using the LFE on the Yamaha and what is a good starting crossover from mains to sub, etc.
Thanks for reading this. Looking forward to some "schooling"!
