I would try to get discounts on the Denon X4000. With the successor X4100 coming out later, I believe the X4000's price should plummet well below $1K.

Yeh, but the discounted ones at $799 won't sound near as good as mine, because mine was $1299.

A person might be able to get the upcoming X4100 for $800 brand new if he has connections.

But, you're right, it still won't sound as good unless he pays $1299.

"Best" is in the ear of the beholder, but the 2013 Onkyo TX-NR929 is going for a kilobuck or less right now. Just got mine but it doesn't sound very good because I paid less than $800.

That's good then. Onkyo has eliminated Audyssey from their new models. Very bad move IMO.

One example of where "newer" is NOT better. In this case, "newer" is actually worse.
