Hi Experts,

Finally got my new power amp (MX-A5000) and my Pre (CX-A5000).

I have a question about the impedance. I have attached the page about the impedance instructions. Please have a look.

What I did is:
1- I positioned the selector at the upper position.
2- I connected the front tower mids to CH.2 A
3- I connected the front tower woofer to CH.3
4- I connected the center to CH.1
5- I connected the surrounds to CH.4
6- I connected the surrounds back to CH.5

Is that correct??

I think you've got the wiring correct according to the instructions. I'd use the 8 ohm setting, though. Usually when there's a selector switch like that, the only thing the 4 ohm setting does is it limits available power. That could introduce soft clipping resulting in lower quality sound at increased volumes. Besides, your 6 ohm speakers aren't a steady 6 ohms from the lowest frequency to the highest. They've got dips and peaks, and probably present a true 6 ohm load at only a small range of frequencies.

Thanks Rojo.

Is there a down side if I position the selector back to lower position? I mean will it harm my speakers?

No. Your speakers won't be harmed. The danger of running low impedance speakers is more to the amp than the speakers. But that amp should have no problem driving 6 ohm speakers. I run 6 ohm speakers on my Marantz receiver with no problem, and it's not nearly as beefy as your Yamaha. You have nothing to worry about.

I would advise to read the review done by the folks of this site on this combo. Somewhere in the review the below is mentioned.

"With the impedance switch set low aka the 4 ohm setting, the MX-A5000 only delivered 63 watts at .1% THD +N with 5 channels driven. We ALWAYS recommend leaving the impedance switch set in the default high (8 ohms or more) mode regardless of the speaker load you will be using."

Awesome! That's the bottom line I was looking for.

Thank you so much for this :D
