PLEASE HELP, YAMAHA RX-V1500. only have sound in sleep mode on center channel. HELP ME PLZ

Im a newbie here so bear with me please.

(JUST works on TV through optical in out of center channel & cd/cd-r/aux/tape-mid inputs only in SLEEP & Only center.)

I have a Yamaha RX-V1500, just got started re-setting up my stereo got my main front ( 2 CV E-712s) & center ( CV E-766) hooked up &
decided I would take a break & soak up some sound. 5min in it cuts out completely, felt a little warm so I turned it off for about 10min & back on
(had sound only out of center from TV optical input) , no sound still in front mains , unplugged power for 30min then 12hrs, no change. So I tried playing around w/ inputs & settings , got sound out of center in Sleep Mode only from aux av-in, moved inputs around top to bottom, no change.
I have no idea what to do, I've been searching for 2 days now w/no results.
I would just go ahead & upgrade but can't afford it at the moment.

How loud were you playing the sound?

It seems the receiver went into protect mode. Sometimes this does not happen quick enough and some circuit boards get damaged even if the receiver is able to power up. You might have to send it in for diagnostics/repair.

I wasn't playing it "very loud" in my opinion, just a good level,
(but... some people would think it was as loud or a little louder than they would want to or like to listen / hear music)
About how much would it cost or around what would be a fair price to replace circuit boards & or capacitors?
How would I go about getting it out of "protect mode" to see if its damaged or not.
Should I try to get an aux amp to be able to listen moderately loud?

LOL! With a screen name like Bass_Junkie and that feedback from folk around you, I bet you are LOUD. LOL! I know that from personal experience .

Here is the best option to try.
Yamaha factory reset. This will clear out your settings and make it as if the receiver was fresh out of the box. If this doesn't work, see next.

About how much would it cost or around what would be a fair price to replace circuit boards & or capacitors?

Unless you are a competent electronics tech (read, know more than just what a blown cap caps and resistors value look like) and have associated test gear (much much more than just a multi meter), how would you go about finding out which cap/resistor/board/power supply/solder joint to replace? Take it to a Yamaha authorized repair shop and have them inspect it. Should not cost more than $100 to have it inspected and they will give you an estimate for the fix. If the receiver is new, you can see if it gets covered under warranty.

Should I try to get an aux amp to be able to listen moderately loud?

This may be advisable. That depends on the load the speakers represent. If you intend to run them full range (without a subwoofer) then it may be an option.

I think I FINALLY found a factory reset procedure that will work on another post it's for the 1400 mine is RX-V1500
(Won't let me post link...yet..will edit later on & add link for anyone else having this problem)
I went through the process & It seemed to do something. Still nothing from main speakers, I moved my input to phono & it shut off after 4-6 sec.
(I've read that's a common with this receiver, but with any/all input settings, mine only shuts off on phono....so I don't know..)
If it's going to cost $1-200 to fix & I need to buy an aux amp (not sure if that's the correct term) maybe I should try and find a good used receiver upgrade (for me, down for someone else)
Could you recommend something that could maybe power my speakers by itself W/out an aux amp?
I only really need 3.1, 5.1 would be a bonus.(not concerned w/7.1 or greater..for now) or if I should get a receiver & amp, what would be a few decent used set-ups ?
(Or where/which forum should I use to inquire about a decent budget {used} setup)

I'm afraid that receiver now has had a serious meltdown. Due to age and value, I can be certain the cost of repair will exceed the value of the unit. I would advise a trip to the recycling center.

The cause, will be age, that unit is at the end of its expected life cycle. In addition loud volume may be a factor as will as a possible short in the speaker wiring.

We don't know you speakers. Speakers vary widely on how much they stress amps and receivers. Speakers manufacturers specs, are deceptive and dishonest far more often than not.

If you play loud and or have speakers that are a difficult load, then you should consider external amplification with a new receiver. Make sure you get a receiver with preouts.

Due to cramming of features and price points, expect a shorter life cycle and reduced performance in the amp sections of low and mid priced receivers.

First of all, did you disconnect everything except the power cord when you did the factory reset? This is normally not necessary but in your case let's just be sure.

Secondly, are sure the procedure you followed worked? If not, try the following that I found from Yamaha website.

This procedureis done using the front panel of the receiver.<o></o>
1. Press the [Master On/Off]button to release it outward to the off position to turn off the unit. <o></o>
2. Locate the [Straight/Effect]button. <o></o>
3. While holding down the [Straight/Effect]button, press in the [Master On/Off] button. <o></o>
4. The Advanced Menu willcome up on the receivers front panel display, let go of the [Straight/Effect]button. <o></o>
5. Locate the [ProgramSelector] and rotate it to the right until you see INTIALIZE CANCEL.<o></o>
6. Press the [Straight/Effect]button repeatedly to select: INITIALIZE ALL. <o></o>
7. Power the RX-V1800 offusing the [Master On/Off] button. <o></o>
8. Power the RX-V1800 backon using the [Master On/Off] button and the receiver is now set back tothe original factory settings.<o></o>

I am 90% sure if will work on the V1400 through V2600.

I would think if you could see the setting "initialize all" and select it then it should work.

After a factory reset, then connect one speaker at a time, make sure you start with pure direct, without any sound mode. You can also try to get an amp to see if the preouts work. If they do then you have the option to buy a low cost two channel power amp until you are ready to buy another AVR. The power amp will always be useful and will last for a long time.

I thought Yamaha was supposed to be the most reliable? It's probably just coincidence, but I'm seeing more Yamaha issues lately.

I'm thinking Yamaha isn't any more reliable than Denon or Marantz.

A couple of things.
A phono input is for a record player, not a higher voltage device.
What is the source of your inputs? A TV may be in mono. You may need to check the TV's audio out setting.
Same for the receiver's audio settings. Make sure you have at least the Dolby pro logic designated.

Do you have a CD player? connect it and see.

FUSES!!!!!! I fell SO DUMB!!!! One of my "buddies" must have decided to take my 3.5A Slow Burns out & replace them with little 2A fuses. I didn't check the fuses b/c I felt it was an impossibility for this little Yamme to burn/blow the 3.5s' that handled my old Peavey setup (lost/stolen during move). After reading "PENG"'s reply, I hooked the L then R speaker to known still working center output &....... NOTHING... "well maybe I should check FUSES"..... BURNT!!

Maybe not fried yet.. It's practically nos, been sitting unused for 5+years. I believe this receiver has preouts, IF its ok what would be a decent used amp (600-1000w)?

No I didn't disconnect everything b/c, I guess I didn't realize it would/could make a difference & Im not using banana or 1/4" connecters like I'm used to & getting the bare wires in & around to touch on both sides of screw down connector cleanly is a pain w/high gauge wire.
(So after I read this post ^^^^ I decided to try it, found L&R would not work on center channel & decided I should check fuses.)

So Im going to town tomorrow (I live in the sticks & can't make it today b/f they close) to get fuses & banana connectors,
On the off chance it works, what would be a few decent used options for an amp compatible RCA type inputs (6-1000w 2or4 ch)?

The 712 are rated 8 Ohm and 98dB and 76C is 92dB Sensitivity. Your Yamaha has more than enough power to drive them. Have the fuses put back and enjoy.

Yea "buddies" are great for causing hidden problems Especially w/things sitting in or around my shop/garage (did you know car speakers,cd players, N02 bottles, tools & now fuses all have legs?)...

Im soon hoping to re-acquire a pair of CV CLS-215s or step up to the XLSs, probably just CLSs (budget dictates for now).

So im almost sure I will need an amp, almost... Would a amp keep the receiver from getting so warm, even for now just powering the 712s? I know I at-least need a fan set-up... (I NEED Hz ALL DAY when home) lots of volume here.

If an amp would allow me to push the limits of my speakers for long periods w/out overheating & shutting my receiver down that would be GREAT. But If my RX-V1500 will do the job (for now), hours of high volume without damage to receiver... Then I'll just wait until I need it, but I don't want to cause damage to it (IF it's not dead). I'd rather go ahead & get a amp to save me from having to buy a receiver.... IF I don't already.
What do you recommend?
