New Home Theater system isn't playing Pandora

Hello everyone,

So, I just installed my new home theater system(Denon AVR-X4000 receiver, Def Tech Studio Monitor 55 for the fronts, Mythos Seven for the Center, Mythos Gem XL for the rears, and two subwoofers: SVS PB-1000/Infinity BU2.

The system sounds fantastic, but, the home theater isn't playing audio from my Panasonic smart tv(TC-P50G25) when I switch it over to my Pandora app. When I switch the TV to Vieracast, I'm still hearing my cable audio. I've tried looking through my TV's user manual and have found nothing. I've been looking through the settings on both my TV and HT system and still nothing.

Does anyone know what this could be? Hopefully it's an easy fix.

Heya TMASS. How do you have your tv audio out connected to your receiver? Are you using an optical cable, or are you depending on the audio return channel over HDMI to handle it?

Thanks for getting back to me man. I'm using my HDMI 1(ARC) port from my TV to my HDMI Monitor(ARC) port on my receiver. When I had my Panasonic Viera soundbar connected to this same TV, I was also using the HDMI 1(ARC) port and it would work perfectly going back and forth between cable, and/or pandora or netflix with my apps on my TV.

You have confirmed that ARC HDMI ports are being used on both sides, CEC setting is turned on for both devices. That should pretty much do it.

Try this, turn all devices OFF for a few minutes and then ON again ... TV first and then the AVR. The AVR will always shift to the "TV" source input when first turned ON rather than going to the last input that was on prior to the AVR being put into Standby.

IMO, CEC is a pain. Just keep it off and run an optical cable like Rojo suggested. You still get exactly the same sound quality as HDMI (PCM 2.0 and DD 5.1), without the hassle.

tmass, your x4000 has Pandora built-in. Why not use that instead of the one on your TV?
On your x4000 remote, press the "NETWORK" button. It will show, (on your TV screen), a list of network applications, including Pandora. Select Pandora, enter your login info, and listen. Easy Peasy. I use it all the time.

While listening to Pandora, you can easily change your TV to display the Pandora screen, or a TV channel, by using the "OPTION" button.

Then to return to TV mode, press "CBL/SAT" on your x4000 remote... or "Blu-ray", or whatever you want.

My TV and Bluray player also have Pandora... but I find more flexibility using the one in the x4000. For that reason, I have the x4000 hardwired w/ an ethernet cable, while all other components are connected via wireless access point. I feel the hardwire just gives me a little more stability.

So, I ordered a optical cable last night on amazon and it will be here next week. What does "CEC" control exactly?

That's easier said than done. I have no means of connecting an ethernet cable to the av receiver.

Wireless Access Points are cheap, and one would give you a place to connect your AVR, TV, BDP, Cable/Sat, and anything else.
How did you, do you, update the software in your x4000 without an internet connection?

Denon doesn't make a wifi adapter. So, the only way I would be able to do it is through a bridge.

UPDATE! So, I finally called Denon and this is how they instructed me to fix the issue.

Went to setup menu->video->hdmi setup->hdmi control(set to on)->pass through source-> cbl/sat... Problem solved. I never would've been able to figure this out on my own. Thank for all the input guys. Much appreciated.

Denon doesn't make a wifi adapter. So, the only way I would be able to do it is through a bridge.

A wireless access point picks up the wireless signal from your wireless router, then gives you 4/6/8/10 wired ethernet connectors as outputs. So with regular ethernet cables, you plug the access point into your AVR/Cable/Sat/Bluray, and the access point feeds them thru regular ethernet cables... no wifi adapters required.

In my case, the HT area has both an ethernet cable, (pulled thru the basement), and a wireless access point. All capable components are plugged into one or the other, and although not frequent, it is also not unusual to get a firmware/software update for some component. I recommend you do something. And if/when you do, you will also have the ability to use various functions built in to your x4000.
