General comments;

Read all the books, acted in my children's theater version of the Hobbit in 7th grade, so yes, I am a fan.

3D is actually quite good, as it should be :)

If there was ever a reason to own a subwoofer for movies, Smaug is it. The scenes with the dragon really draw out the lows and it put a smile to my face

Bottom line, can forgive the liberties they took with the source material, still a good watch and great fun for your home theater setup :D

Thanks to this movie my wife FINALLY thanked me for the 'alien towers' (dual PC-12s) and said we must always have subwoofers!

I bought the first one and this one and they're some of the best looking 3D discs around. Audio is excellent on both discs.

Rented this one a while ago. Absolutely HATED that they included Legolas in this one but the Smaug scenes were definitely cool. Didn't even recognize Cumberbatch as the voice. But I had forgotten that they had split this into 3 movies so when it ended with Smaug flying towards Laketown I screamed "**** you Peter Jackson! And **** you New Line Cinema!!!" :mad:

I gave up worrying about all the changes half way through LOTR :D Yeah they bother me, but whatayagonado? Yeah, archives, great, but how many people actually read the Silmarillion and the rest of the archives? Not many that I know of.

I love those. Silmarillion was great and so was the Children of Huron (I'm sure I spelled that wrong). What other ones are there?

I don't see Children of Hurin on there, but that was the last to be published and was published in 2007, so perhaps that's why. I'll have to update the summer reading list with a few of those on it.

I will add that Legolas is borderline annoying in this movie, and that I have no idea why middle earth fears Sauron and his army. Apparently everyone in middle earth is an expert with a bow! They majorly pawn all Orcs at at least a 15-1 ratio. :), unless you are Legalas then it is a 30-1 ratio. Or if you are dwarf or hobbit, you can throw your weapon in the air randomly and kill at least 3-5 orcs. Sauron needs to spend more time training his army!

In the same respect, you have the awesome Smaug who can not manage to take down 1 hobbit and a few dwarves in a confined area.
