We do that? I thought we tried to pawn our old stuff off on them so we could go buy new stuff?

No, you don't need a $50 HDMI cable unless it includes services that are illegal in 49 states.

I don't think most people here OVER recommend. We're usually pretty reasonable IMO, which is why most often the first question is "What's your budget?". Sometimes the recommendations are above the budget because the budget will result in a high probability of not delivering performance compared to the funds invested. That really is more to the tune of setting an expectation level for what you get for a given budget, which is totally realistic. I don't think most people here would offer recommendations saying this is "good enough" as opposed to something that will definitely perform.

Been browsing over a few forums and it reads like new comers are being pressured in to buying gear they really don't need, for instance just recently a couple of members of another fourm have said you need 2 subs, you need a power amp there's no point in being here if you do not have them,

Golly, I guess you should have just stuck around here, then. Maybe it's just them there Aussie forums that are so pushy.

Well I did miss you Adam, and i won't be continuing on that fourm but the Aussie form is grate!!!! have found locals to my town that have some kick *** theatres but ill always be back to visit every one here

If someone is too weak willed, or weak minded, to not realize these are only opinions, well...

And I have seen established members here debate/disagree on both issues.

We often see posters , when writing about how good a product is (a product that stands little to no chance of doing anything good) say that you need to buy this product before you can criticize it.
