Which sub company uses the best drivers?

DD-+ 18+ is way more than I'd spend on a sub.
That's what I thought, until I shopped around. :)

I can also attest to the cabinet being completely inert. For loud, bass-heavy music the grille cloth does flap noticeably however. I'd take the grille off, but the cat thinks that shiny textured driver is a little too interesting.

JL Audio is definitely on the list. Their drivers are right up there with the TC stuff.

I know the JL Gotham drivers are also very nice, but also very expensive.

$2950 w/ the grill.
Unless you get the passive version of the Funk 18.0 sub, which is about $1K less than the active version. If you buy dual subs, the grills are free. :D

I would say the Funk tsad driver with the neo motor is probably top of the list. However there are many quality drivers on the market and besides that is only one piece of the puzzle as Steve mentioned earlier.

Bingo. I didn't audition drivers, I auditioned subwoofers.

While it's true that subwoofers should be judged as a whole, the driver is the heart of the sub and it determines the performance more than anything else. If you are going to build a sub, you start by selecting a driver that will meet your criteria and go from there.

There was a $15k sub called the Ulric from a company called Lycan which used the LMS Ultra 5400, but they don't seem to exist anymore.

True but high performance can be achieved with an average priced driver in the right configuration. When looking at horns and TLs the enclosure plays an equal part in performance (not to say some drivers will not do better, just that the best drivers might not get you dollar to performance ratios needed)
