I listened to it this morning on my commute to work and I'm very disappointed in this album. There is not one redeeming song. They are clearly departing from their earlier sound and are heading towards ...well I really don't know. Its an album of confusion.

I preordered it too. I liked the first track that was released, but will have to see when I hear the rest. I hope it is like El Camino because I think you and I both weren't completely sold on that one when it came out either. I love that album now.

El Camino is a better album than their latest but I should keep my big yap shut and not potentially ruin it for you. I'm interested in hearing your opinion to see if it coincides with mine.

Still on the first few listens and I'll have to get it cranked up on the main system tonight, but so far I like it. It seems a lot mellower than the last few albums, sort of more like the solo Dan Auerbach album Keep It Hid, an album that I love. It still sounds like them, though it is a bit of a different flavor and I don't like all the tracks right off the bat, but a few seem solid. A fair amount of the album actually fits the mood I've been in recently, like Waiting on Words. I'll keep listening and let you know after I've had some time to process it. You had me concerned there for a bit, but it isn't too bad :)

I just don't like the overall sound anymore. Too many synthesizer pops and squeals that take away the sound from the rawness they once had. El-Camino sort of balanced the rawness with the polished but this album is coming across to "poppish" for my tastes. I will have to give it a few more listens though just to see if I can force myself to like it. :) They have changed their sound completely compared to Brothers and earlier.

Agreed, this one is quite different and El Camino is a better album overall. Some of the tracks I like quite a bit, but the ones I don't care for now I don't see growing on me anytime soon. I've listened to it quite a bit so far. Not their strongest.
