Really Boring Stuff Only III: Resurrection

Since I've not compared them back to back, I'll defer to you on this one.

I've used two receivers with XT and XT32, in two different rooms with a few different pairs of speakers. Looking at before and after measurements from everything, XT32 didn't impress me as much as I though it would. Although there was more precision on the time delay and level setting. I'm not a huge fan of autoEQ anyways, but for me in my room I could get away with XT and not be losing much. YMMV.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Since your setup was closer to optimal than not, Audyssey did not have that great of an impact.

When I had the Denon 3806 from a few years ago (forget which version of Audyssey), I preferred Pure Direct. Now with the X4000, I cannot imagine using Pure Direct. As it happens, the room and speaker arrangement with the 3806 was much closer to optimal than my current setup.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Since your setup was closer to optimal than not, Audyssey did not have that great of an impact.

With the MiniDSP's and Audyssey combined, the results have been much much better. What I'd really like to try is the new MiniDSP with Dirac and a Trinnov product to see how those stack up. I also have an Antimode 2.0 dual core, but it didn't blow me away. Although I'm not sure I've given it a completely fair shake. Eventually I'll get around to playing with it more and giving it a proper test.

I got a quote for audyssey pro once, very expensive for the kit and then an additional cost to register your receiver. Something like $500 for the kit IIRC and then $1-200 to register a receiver.

Yup, that's exactly correct.

Add in the cost of a mid level AVR (that can support Audyssey Pro) and that the registration is tired to a specific AVR, I'm not sure of the value aspect considering the host of stand alone options at less upfront cost and greater flexibility. It makes sense in the installer field, not so much in retail.

Would you ever get your room conditioned?

When I finally someday get my own place with a room I can make my theater room I'm going to treat the heck out of it. Walls, ceiling, corners whatever it takes. Then I'll EQ the bejeezus out of it as well until I'm +- 1 from 10hz-20khz
