Hello all, I'm brand new at setting up a home theater, but I'm hoping that after much browsing here and on other sites that I know enough to ask the right questions here before trying to assemble a system.

I currently have the following components:
Receiver: Yamaha RX-673
In-Ceiling Speakers: 4 Definitive Technology 5.5r
Sub: BIC V1220

I will be purchasing the following speakers in the next couple days from somebody used via Craigslist:
Front Left & Right: 2 BIC DV62si
Center:DV53CLR

My questions are:
1) Because of an entertainment center that does not have shelves, I'm either going to have to ceiling mount the front left, right, and the center on a 10 foot tall ceiling or place them on top of the 6 foot, 9 inch tall entertainment center where I can build mounts to angle them downward. Which is the best option? The house was pre wired for ceiling speakers, so there wouldn't be any extra work to mount them there.

2) Will the Definitive Technology speakers work ok for surround left, right, and back as ceiling mount? (Again, on a 10 foot tall ceiling)

3) Should I consider going with the BIC DV62CLR instead of the smaller 53CLR? I can't find many recommendations for the 53CLR, but there are a decent amount for the 62CLR.

4) Lastly, and maybe most importantly, does this system work together well? Anything that's blaringly inadequate or lacking? Speakers that don't match together well?

Some info about the room: As mentioned, it has 10 foot ceilings, the design is an open floor plan with a kitchen to the back of the living room and another room to the left when facing front that would provide no real boundary to the rest of the hose. Living room rough dimensions are 17 deep and 15 feet wide. Depth into the kitchen would make it approximately 27 feet deep and the width with the other room until a lowered soffit would become about 19 feet. Living room flooring is carpeting surrounded by ceramic tile over cement foundation. Right wall when facing front is an outdoor wall and front wall is an interior wall.

Thank you very much for looking, any and all advice is welcomed. Please let me know if I need to provide more info or specs for the components.

I wouldn't ceiling mount the front L/R. Ideally you want the tweeters at about ear height, so wall mounting would be the best option. I understand it's prewired for ceiling speakers, but you're not going to get the best SQ out of those bookshelves mounting them on the ceiling. Nor are in ceiling speakers exactly known for super SQ in general.

They should be ok, although there are cheaper options out there.

The bigger speaker couldn't hurt you, although I've never heard either.

It really depends on your overall budget. Personally, and I mean no offense, but I find the whole system lacking. I get that you're working with what you've got, but you can get cheap surround setups that will offer much better sound quality at around the same price or less if you go with more conventional speakers and placements.

You're not going to get a lot of clean bass with a single sub and that size space. Especially with that BIC. <style id="pageBrightnessCustomCSS">body{zoom:150%;}</style>

Great feedback, exactly what I was looking for. I don't have much money on hand so you're correct that I'm piecing this together and perhaps skimping too much - no offense taken. Any recommendations for a different setup that might be good to look at buying used? I am on a tight budget but can always take advice on components to upgrade into later as I save money. Unfortunately, I just don't have the option for wall mounting up front and the same issue with the surrounds, I'll have to settle for in ceiling there. You've tipped my decision for placing the fronts on top of the entertainment center and I understand that I should also look for options to get them lower. Thank you again!
