I have a bit of a dilemma. I desire new toys but cannot decide on what to do. Every time I come to a decision I wake up the next day and am unsure and usually change my mind by the end of the day.

Here is the list;
Emotiva XPA-3 - I actually over did it one night and made my amp shut down :rolleyes: Now I just want to take some of the load off.

Oppo BDP-103 - Might be worth upgrading

A second woofer - A sister to the ported
Dayton Audio RSS460HO-4 18"

So I have decided to ask the internets, what's your two cents?? How should I prioritize?

If you're overdriving your amplifier, or even pushing it close consistently then an external amp should be your priority so you don't burn out your receiver. If you don't expect it to happen again anytime soon, then the second subwoofer should be number 1 (or if the amplifier is 1 then the sub should be 2). You'll gain a lot by adding a second sub, both in output, less power to hit the same levels and smoother overall response. The Oppo really isn't a priority for BD playback. For stereo playback, music files, SACD's, then I'd still put it 3, but then it at least carries a bit more importance. If BD playback is all you're after then you can easily get away with a "lesser" player and be fine.

What fuzz said.

I had a similar issue and the XPA-3 solved things nicely.

I would vote for decent amp. If he does not have trouble with room modes, I doubt another sub will add much. That sub has a huge output with very little power. I know I designed it! It is a totally different animal from your nice sealed subs. However I'm not in commerce and his sub is free of the ill effects of most commercial ported subs. In fact I would hope you would be hard pressed to know it was a ported sub.

Simplified nicely, amp - sub(I love da bass :D) - oppo

i do like the idea of the oppo but I don't have sacds and most of my music comes through my PC.

If I'm understanding your comment correctly you think TLS designed the actual driver, but what TLS meant was that he designed the box and recommended the 18" Dayton driver to Ares. His build thread is in the DIY section.
