He does surprise me from time to time. He even recently purchased a new digital camera, that was a different brand than his older one. The thing is, he has interest in learning to use that, but I don't think he has interest in learning an AVR. The last system he had was more than 20 years ago, so since then it has been a boombox. To me, that's a crying shame and I'm out to remedy that.

Three phases you go through w/ your parents:
1) They are infallable
2) They are wrong, just don't get it, and you can fix them
3) They are who they are, and you accomodate as best you can

If he's not interested in learning the cool new AVR capabilities, find him something simple that he will use and enjoy.
