And that's a big part of why I think it is a better suggestion :) Fuzz's recommendation should work and should not require any special skills.
But for those with wiring skills, it's the cheaper option.

You better have skills unless you want a voided warranty or something to short out. However, if you have the knowledge to properly do the wiring, my guess is you already have enough knowledge to complete the project without asking for help.

I will not use such a cheap and probably bad sounding ac connector for my equipment. And also it seems not to be made for the german market. So we better stop this discussion...

Maybe sharkman can answer my last questions, if not I'll try by myself...

Isn't it true that a surge suppressor can choke an amp?

It can if it won't allow the amount of current the amp calls for to pass through it. For regular listening this shouldn't be a problem, but for loud peaks it can be an issue. The first thing to do would be to verify that the amp is in fact calling for more power than a surge suppressor can deliver.

Gonna bump this...After having some time to really live with the system, I've realized that, indeed, the noise floor of the Oppo is a problem if you expect to use it as a permanent pre-amp solution. Keep in mind I have (2) Rane DSP's that drive the inputs of my Crowns and even with the ridiculous output voltage capability of the Ranes and the superb A/D/A conversion within, it simply cannot make up for the Oppo's noise floor when used as the system's pre-amp. Most importantly, if you look back in this thread, you'll see where I provided a response from Oppo that stated this; so I'm not trying to bash the company at all. Just saying if you're going to be hardheaded like I was, don't expect much different than the results I had. I got it to work as a pre-amp, sure, but I'm fighting the noise vs volume tradeoff. I've decided I'm going to have to plunk down the cash for a dedicated pre/pro, unfortunately. I'm hoping something like the Emo UMC-200 will suffice.
