Huddie William Ledbetter [aka Leadbelly] - Somebody's Diggin' My Potatoes

The songwriting credits on this song is also attributed to Big Bill Broonzy, his title for the song was Diggin' My Potatoes, but this pre-dates his 1953 version by 9 years. AMG credits this version to Huddie William Ledbetter & Ernest Lawlars in 1944.

That's part of that one though :) That grittiness adds to the feel of that album, definitely among my favorite from them, though I listen to Attack and Release a lot too.

Oh yeah, man. That's what I dig about Thickfreakness. It's STINKY. Goes good with ribs!

I was also being a little coy  :

Filter Magazine said:
On the liner notes for Thickfreakness, a curious mention is made under the brief recording history of the album: "All songs recorded and mixed in December 2002 by Patrick Carney in Akron, Ohio, at Studio 45 using his patented recording technique called 'medium fidelity.'" "That's because we were stupid," says Carney...

Figured there was a reason you mentioned it, not just saying that in regards to the sound of the recording, but it is perfect for those songs and the name goes well too. Although Brothers was the album that got me listening to them more, Thickfreakness was the the first album a friend lent me to get introduced to them with and was the real ear opener. It is the kind of album that you hang out with drinking beer and it starts a bar fight; then you wake up in the morning not remembering what happened but knowing it was a good time. I'd say probably their best overall album IMO.

North Mississippi Allstars - World Boogie Is Coming

NMA are Luther and Cody Dickinson, sons of the late, legendary Memphis musician and record producer Jim Dickinson.

Seventeen total tracks, plus a download card for five more + four videos.

Three covers/songs by Junior Kimbrough, including "Meet Me In The City."
Three covers/songs by R.L. Burnside, including a 10 minute version of "Jumper on the Line."
Three covers/songs by Otha Turner. 'Nuff said.
Fife and drum cover of Willie Dixon's "My Babe."
Greasy, tasty cover of Bukka White's "World Boogie."

Guests include brothers Duwayne and Garry Burnside, Sid Selvidge and son Steve Selvidge, plus many other roots-connected musicians.

Did I mention that Robert Plant blasts harmonica on the first two tracks?

This record looks back but drives forward hard.

My favorite disc of 2013.

Dig it.

Digging it right now. Very, very good. :)
It's in the genes.
Here's one of my favorite albums that the old man produced, No. 1 Record (******) by Big Star in 1972. I have an original copy on Ardent Records, purchased when I worked at a record store after school, in pristine condition. One of the prizes in my record collection. Classic. Still chills my bones listening to it. A must have.

The Hold Steady - Teeth Dreams

Not my usual thing, but this is growing on me. The singer's voice reminds me a little of Graham Parker, a little less of Springsteen, maybe. But better. The band definitely has chops.

Interestingly, one of the guitar players is Steve Selvidge, who is a guest player on the World Boogie Is Coming disc I posted about a couple days ago. Wasn't aware of that when I bought it.
