Marantz upgrade to CD8004/5

Hello
I currently have the Marantz CD6004...Would upgrading to the CD8004/5 SACD player improve CD playback quality at all?
If not, at this price point I could get the OPPO..

I don't know if anyone can really answer this question. The Marantz CD 6004 is a fine unit; I own one and like it a lot. One advantage to the CD 8004 is that it also functions as a dac. I wish more manufacturers would build this functionality into their CD players.

I doubt it. But if you did not do a properly level matched double blind test, you might think you hear a difference.

CD players as a whole seem to be slowly trickling away. The Oppo would likely be a better choice IMO. I have not heard the current Marantz units, but previous ones I've owned had not blown me away. On the other hand, Oppo has consistently impressed with the many players I've owned from them. Having said all that, I do think the differences are subtle when comparing more expensive players. Going from my 83SE to the 105, the improvement is there, but very small; it was a bunch of other features that the unit has (like the ability to be used as a DAC) that make it totally worth it though and I'd say that's going to be as big a factor as anything in choosing a player. Going forward as well, Oppo support is likely to be significantly better than Marantz.

That I don't know... One thing I want to do is get a player that I can play SACD DVD Audio and Blue ray audio on. That would be nice to have.

My last 6 or 7 players have all been universals primarily for audio and after putting the 83SE into my system, it quickly became the only player in the setup, just as the 105 is now.
